Bette Davis didn't get to play Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind, but she did get to play a troublesome Southern belle in William Wyler's 1938 Jezebel. Davis's character, a coquette fond of stirring up rivalries among the men, goes too far and loses her fiancé (Henry Fonda), but she finds atonement when she cares for him during illness. This handsome melodrama by Wyler (who later directed Davis in The Little Foxes) is fully absorbing (John Huston contributed to the script), and Davis's carefully constructed performance does make one draw instant comparisons with Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind. The DVD release has the theatrical trailer, closed captioning, optional Spanish soundtrack, and optional subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. --Tom Keogh

I buy this dvd in Amazon, because in Brasil is not avaiable. It's ok and the dvd is great. No damages and fast delivery.

All I can say is that they don't make movies like that, it was wonderful and the digital remastering of the dvd was impressive..

3.5 stars. I'm a big Bette Davis fan, but the script left me wanting. The whole time I was watching this, I kept making comparisons to Gone with the Wind- just a old campier version. I'm not crazy about films that lay the troubles of the world at the feet of women-especially when the biggest crime she committed was to wear a red dress to a ball-which in a B&W film the whole red dress thing loses it's impact. It was a little expensive for the product but shipping was cheap and swift so I was pleased overall with the expierience.

This movie was one of Bette Davis' best. Thoroughly well performed by the entire cast, Ms. Davis, nevertheless, stood out like the star that she was.
