Rating: out of 5 stars - One of his best works!
Ben Lee is one of my personal favorites and all of his CD's have different moods and vibes to them. This one has it's own different sound to make Ben Lee stand out from the rest of them. His music has a very unique sound and this album definately adds to the uniqueness of his music. Breathing Tornados is by far the best album I have gotten in my life!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Aussie album of the year
While Natalie Imbruglia, Savage Garden, silverchair and the like continue their bombastic assault on the international charts, Bondi boy Ben Lee has come up with an understated effort that easliy out-classes the afformentioned Aussie peers. The simplicity of the (primarily acoustic) tunes here is somewhat misleading. It's only after the third or fourth listen that you begin to realise the depth of Lee's talent, both in terms of structure and lyrical content. The stunning first single 'Cigarettes Will Kill You' is pop perfection, and preceeds track after track of hummable, but never disposable, songs. Lee's voice is distinct , especially due to the fact that there is a noticable lack of studio-sheen covering vocal "imperfections". The album is all the more human for it. Ben Lee is a true musical caftsman, and Breathing Tornados sees him at the top of his craft.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Ben's best!
Top to bottom, Ben's most consistent album yet. The haunting "Tornadoes" is my favorite, and clever "Cigarettes" and "Ship My Body Home" are standouts, too. This album is reminiscent of Billy Bragg in his "Taxman" prime. Fans should also check out Ben's take on The Thompson Twins "If You Were Here" on the "In Their Eyes" comp on Rhino and Elvis Costello "Girls Talk" cover on the "Cigarettes" single.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Ben strums again! Another gem for the kid from Australia
I saw Lee last night at Joe's Pub in NYC. I've seen Nirvana, the Beasties, and just about every other "major" rock artist this decade. Nobody holds up against Ben Lee. His sincerity and infectious pop hooks make for the most gratifying Rock N' Roll I've ever heard. He's a bit more ductile. Only Belle and Sebastian come close to matching the quality of his music. Oh, the album...Breathing Tornados is great. If Ben's band reads this I just want to say hi to Nina the keyboard player. She's gorgeous. Nick
