Rating: - Excellent Resource
One of the most comprehensive and readable books on a delicate subject. This book is a true reference, to be kept, read and reread. No, you won't find the readings used in Medicare or Medicaid, but you will find colon cancer patients wishing they had put its words in practice years ago. The author of the book operated a health retreat for decades, providing many hundreds of people with a new lease on life by diet and detoxification techniques. He was a trained Doctor of Chiropractic prior to his operation of the Hidden Valley Ranch. I found many of his observations and suggestions helpful and informative. This is a 'how to' book, written for potential people who want to get well from degenerative diseases, or avoid same. The author covers nutrition and sample menus in addition to the extensive coverage of tissue cleansing. I find myself re-reading various parts of the book to clarify other information. I heartily recommend this book.
Rating: - What a Quack!
More new-age junk posing as science. This is hardly better than reflexology or magnets. I guess good for a humorous read if nothing else, but I refuse to sponsor quack medicine.
Rating: - It's a cult, not a reference!
I admit that this book had me going for a while. The first thing you're likely to do is flip to the last few pages to look at the "Shock! Horror!" photos of long rubber-like feces. He leads you to believe, and apparently quite successfully, that everyone has pounds of rotting crap like that stuck to the lining of their colon. His philosophy is that everyone should undergo regular colemas in order to clear out that crap and rid their body of toxins. He also stresses that everyone should have at least 3 bowel movements per day. If you don't, you're poisoning your body. After reading the second chapter and viewing the disturbing photos, I got so obsessed with what's "stuck and roting in my colon", that I became constipated for a week! But then, after doing a little more research, I discovered that colon irrigation is very risky, and is likely unjustified. Unfortunately, Dr. Jensen spends very little effort on explaining the risks. After realizing that Dr. Jensen isn't an authority on the subject of bowel health, I then started noticing a lot of other flaws in the book. Dr. Jensen uses his "credentials" as a "doctor" to justify everything he writes, but really doesn't have anything else to back him up. There are a lot of "I believe" and "It has been my experience" type statements. So the first point I want to make is that this book is NOT a reference. It is an essay (an analytic composition dealing with its subject from a limited or personal point of view). The second, and perhaps more important point I want to make is that anyone who chooses to read this book should do so with caution. They should do their research before they start experimenting on their body. Get a second opinion from a professional. Don't assume that everything in this book is factual. It's one man's opinion. That all being said, this book was an interesting read, and did get me thinking. It just scares me that so many people seem to take it as gospel!
Rating: - Essential reading for the health-conscious.
I first became interested in natural healing and cleansing diets when I joined a gym and decided to do a full 360 and do the internal cleansing. What you read in Dr. Jensen's book could save your life, or at least open your eyes. In a nutshell, Dr. Jensen states that many common health ailments (from diabetes to chronic pain) are aided and intensified by poor colon health. Poor diet, lack of fluid, and not eating enough of the right foods (and too much of the wrong ones) causes your colon to get blocked and can lead to a lifetime of health problems. What I learned was shocking, and it is beleived that most people have 10 pounds of impaced fecal material in them. Dr. Jensen's program for cleansing is meant to help clear it out, and promote an overall good state of health. While I will not testify to the effectiveness of the program, I found the information helpful and fascinating. Dr. Jensen's program is easy for the average person to grasp, and it makes sense on so many levels. Most people are shy about discussing bowel care, but few realize how important it is. This book is essential reading, and I know it has helped me see things differently in the way I take care of myself. One word of warning, though. This book contains 25 full color photos of actual cleansing discharge from Dr. Jensen's patients. This is absolutely stomach turning to look at, but keep in mind that the point of the book is not too sugar-coat the need for bowel care, so it is important that you see the plan in action. Just don't read the book while eating. With the trend of healthy living on the rise, many people (myself included) are trying to break bad habits and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Bowel management never even entered my mind until I read Dr. Jensen's books, and seeing things now, I am glad I did. This is one of the best books on the subject, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Rating: - Bowel Consciousness
This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand natural healing. Dr. Bernard Jensen writes in this book some of his core ideas for improving our health. He describes one of his most important tools for helping others improve their health. I find this book represents Dr. Jensen's ideas about bowel cleansing very well. He often said, "Consciousness begins in the bowel."
