Rating: out of 5 stars - Metabolic Typing Diet a Must For Health
The Metabolic Typing Diet is a must read for anyone seeking optimum health. In fact, if you're plagued by vague symptoms of any kind, this is a doubly must read.

Simply put, this book's message is that we all don't thrive on the same kind of diet. Some people (like me) do better on a high protein diet, while others do better on a higher carbohydrate diet.

The author goes into great detail about why this is so, and backs up his assertions with considerable scientific evidence and studies.

So how do you tell what kind of diet is right for you? Well, there's a self test within the book, comprised of about 50 questions or so. After taking this test, you'll have a pretty good idea what your ideal metabolic type is, and you can design your diet accordingly.

Bottom line: This book is highly recommended.

Been involved in the alternative healthcare industry for many years. One of the most important books I have read in years. A must read !!!!

Rating: out of 5 stars - We're not all built the same...
This book was an enormous help to me in my quest to gain more energy and vitality. I am in relatively good shape but have pretty dramatic low blood sugar episodes on the typical Amercian diet. For instance, a glass of OJ in the morning will send my blood sugar plummeting, and my mood and energy right along with it, within minutes of ingestion as will any caffeinated beverage. Eating a steak not only appeals to me but has never made me gain weight like low fat sugary snacks have. I am without a doubt a "protein type" as Wolcott describes it, but Atkins doesn't work for me. I need to eat carbs but have found that this book's guidelines for my type which state that I must always eat protein along with those carbs and include fat in every meal, works wonders. Yes, I am truly a "meat and potatoes" girl. Also, the book mentions how certain supplements react differently in everyone. For instance, Vitamin C is not recommended for me and, through simple research, I discovered why - Vitamin C can increase your body's production of insulin which, hello, drives your blood sugar down! Although I will need to follow most of these guidelines for most of my life, I do believe that eventually your metabolism begins to heal and you are able to eat what you want in moderation. But for those of you who, like me, may be struggling with hypoglycemia or out of control hunger or food cravings right now, this book is well worth a look.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Not terribly impressed.
Bought this book hoping for some insight into the foods that would be good for me. I've been doing WW and am losing weight, but feel that the prepackaged foods aren't really the best. Wanting to incorporate a more healthy alternative, I found this book.

Basically, there is a 65 question questionnaire, that unless you have paid very close attention to how food makes you feel, you'll most likely be guessing at them. I've been on slimfast, Atkins, raw food diets, etc... but I never really sat down at thought, "hmm I just ate a steak... I think I could go run a marathon." Or "You know, that fruit salad I just ate is making me jittery and spacey." In the end, based on the questions, I figure most people will fall into the 'mixed' type... which basically means you'll be on your own for the most part. In fact, once you get the section of the book for the Mixed Type, you are instructed to go read the other two sections, as nothing specific really applies to you. Not only is moderation apparently the key, but it's also the mantra of Mixed Types.

The one thing that does seem to be good about this book is that it very briefly describes how to tweak your diet. In this way, I figure if you don't already know what type you are, you could figure it out pretty quickly. Determining your personal fuel mix is a lot like an elimination diet or like an induction period in some other diets.

I'm not sure that I agree with the idea that if you eat for your proper metabolic type that the calories will take care of themselves. As mentioned in other reviews, I think it's fairly safe to say that if you eat more calories than you use, that you will gain weight.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Excellent Tool for Customizing Individual Diets
Those who have progressed through the "zone," eating "right 4 your type," and going "Paleo," will find this book to be a useful tool to round out and fine tune their dietary choices. A number of perspectives are covered. The self-administered survey is useful and informative. I feel enriched for having access to the information that has contributed to the success of my current regimen of eating Paleo. As with any additional book, there is a temptation to abandon elements of the diet that are working based on the additional information. I recommend the book to identify additional steps only while maintaining whatever has led to previous success. We are all individual and there is no one-size-fits-all diet. The additional information in this book has been helpful to me.
