Rating: - Better than Idiot Guide and I liked that... DETAILED!
This is an excellent beginners book as well as a terrific reference book. I had also purchased the Idiot guide and thought it was great, this book is filled with alot more. I am referring to the 2nd Edition. Straight forward knowledge and definations with a host of pictures to illustrate. Break down of information is well organized and even goes so far as to tell you where to go for the most important information. For the beginner but also for a point of reference. Easy to read easy to understand and easy to put into motion. Previously I had chose between the Idiot Guide and the 1st Edition, and chose the Idiot Guide, if I had the choice now between the Idiot and 2nd Edition THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONLY BOOK PURCHASED. Fully detailed and excellent reference, sure to have a long shelf life.
Rating: - Humorous and good
"Dry grips, this is one of the most important things to have in wet-weather golf. I once had a club slip out of my hands on the driving range and go through a snack shop window. I blamed it on an alien spacecraft", quips McCord. Even though I found this book to hilarious, it contains a wealth of information for all levels of golfers. In fact, it has many useful tips and suggestions for low-handicappers. Don't let the title fool you. You don't have to be dumb to read and enjoy this book, as it provides useful insight for the novice of golf from the perspective of a seasoned PGA Pro and Coach.
Rating: - If you're a duffer, buy "Dummies"
I picked up a golf club for the first time just a few short weeks ago. The confusing jargon, the mountain of rules and all the "advice" I've received from EVERYONE who finds out that I'm learning the game has been overwhelming. Gary does a fantastic job of breaking down a difficult game...without making me feel like a moron. I appreciate his humor and his suggestions really do work! I wish there were more tips for women golfers and left-handers, but overall, this book is more than worth the price!
Rating: - quest to breaking 80
As a golfer who has read over 200 books, taken hundred's of lessons and hit millions of balls... I still learned a lot from this book! Worth the money ; No question!
Rating: - I guess I'm a golf dummie!
I have never picked up a golf club until a week ago. I started browsing the internet for information at a beginners level. The web turned up dry but thanks to IDG I have the definitive golf newbie resource. The book is 400 pages with the first 238 being strictly information on how to golf. From descriptions of each club to how to hit the ball every different way imaginable. The rest of the book shows you how to handle yourself on the green, rules of the game, and how to score yourself. From what I can see, this book will be invaluable to my venture into the sport of golf. I will recommend it to anyone wanting to play golf but just don't know where to start. Lets face it, we're all dummies in the beginning!
