Rating: - Small, But Useful
The small format makes this seem like a gift book for the golfer in your life. Although the list of clothing needed is rather simple (for a beginner), the book moves on to some nitty-gritty details that experienced golfers will appreciate. It tells how to know if a club has the correct lie to fit you and how to determine the sweet spot on a putter you are thinking of buying.
The book moves on to grip and swing explanations. The illustrations are marvelous, very colorful and easy-to-follow. It includes a few exercises to improve your swing and gives a few tips on golf ettiquette (holding the flag, replacing divots).
Most golfers end up with a shelf or several shelves of books on the complex game of golf. This is a good one to start your collection.
Rating: - Discover Golf Essentials
The DK 101 Essential Tips Guides are filled with beautiful full-color images and practical information. The entire subject of Golf is discussed in 101 tips. Within hours you will have absorbed the basics. This book is divided into 7 main sections:
Clothing & Equipment - Deciding on a beginner's set, putter preferences and selecting a bag.
Understanding Basic Grips - Overlapping, Interlocking, Two-handed and a grip test.
Addressing The Ball - Taking good aim, testing your posture and weight distribution.
Swing with Success - Lots of pictures showing you a variety of swing positions. Should you be in a relaxed and ready position or twist into a spring loading position.
Control on the Course - Maintaining balance on a hill or preparing for a downhill shot.
Strengths & Weaknesses - Warmup routines and practicing. There is a section where you can take 20 balls and hit the ball to check hitting distances for each club.
Playing the Game - How to analyze the scorecard and follow golf etiquette.
An interesting book for anyone who is thinking about taking up golf. This is a quick read and you can learn all the basics in a few minutes.

Rating: - A great quick reference
Beginning golfers, buy this book! (No, I'm not related to the author or publisher.) This is almost the perfect elementary golf guide. Each topic is brief and to the point, the color photos are clear and sharp, and I can't imagine any essential element of the game that isn't covered. My only gripe is that I was surprised at the small format (neglected to check the dimensions of the book under Amazon's description) -- it's about the size of a small paperback novel. I guess they expect you to carry it to the driving range in your back pocket. A larger format would have helped. Aside from that, this book is a keeper.
Rating: - Good Book for Beginners
When I decided to try and take up golf I found this book on the Internet and took a chance and purchased it. I was very pleased. This really is a nice book. Every page is illustrated in full color and is printed on 279 mm paper. It's a quality publication. It covers every aspect of the game from equipment to instructions and pointers on driving and putting. It is a very informative book even if you decide never to play the game.
Rating: - Extremely easy to follow with good photo illustrations
This bood is very short yet packed with essential golf tips for beginners. There are photos almost every single page so it's like watching a video tape. It takes less than 30 minutes to read the whole book, but I learned a lot. With price so low, you can't go wrong.
