Rating: out of 5 stars - This the Bible of Human Machine
It is very nice book. Everything is explained in details, up to date (of course if you get the latest edition). Chapters are arranged according to systems. Requires certain background in Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Human Anatomy. Fundamental concepts are not repeated here for memory refreshment. There are some but not many clinical applications which I wish there was more. Some applications of drug therapy again very minimal. A book that you will refer time and time and once you grasp this book in it's all dimensions you can start to link etiologies to each other and everything makes sense.

Rating: out of 5 stars - This book is so awesome it's ineffable
It's impossible for me to convey how great this book is. I am a second year medical student and rather burnt out on pathology right now. But then ah yes I listen to Guyton's sweet melodic words of physiology and realize that here is a physiology text book that actually makes sense! The way this book flows from topic to topic is just heavenly. Learning seems to not be so much a chore but rather a homeostatic mechanism--Guyton sends ripples through your brain, and your only option is to LEARN PHYSIOLOGY! And Guyton is great at making correlations between physiology and pathology, or biochemisty, etc. His book is actually a book about MEDICINE, using physiologic principles as the foundation. I agree with the reviewer who said that all graphs/figures are explained well--they are indeed. I think that his judicious use of figures only increases the value of this book, because he spends his time wisely talking about physiology rather than the results of some experiment which I'm not even sure was performed in the first place. Conclusion: 5 stars is too modest, try 50!!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Physiology??
This is a good book if you need a simple review of physiology. But it doesn't have any practice problems so you can't test yourself to see if you really understand the concepts.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Guyton's medical physiology
As a hospital librarian, I have found Guyton's to be an invaluable resource. When I need to search for information on physiological processes that I don't fully understand, Guyton's is the first source I turn to.

The language is clear and accessible, and the illustrations are helpful. The text does a marvellous job of presenting complex information in a way that can be grasped quickly.

Rating: out of 5 stars - easy reading compared to berne and levy
I am a first year medical student and I find this particular physiology book easy to work with. Although Berne and Levy may be more detailed, Guyton's explanations are uncomplicated and simple. It basically covers everything in physiology and it has been a big help in problem based learning since a lot of different topics are integrated.
