Rating:  - The "Bible" of blood banking
This book will appeal to a limited group of people, ie blood bankers. However, for that group, this book is superb. It has been updated and expanded since the last edition that I had. I think it should be in all blood bank libraries.
Rating:  - Covers the field of transfusion problems exhaustively
I used this text (8th edition) as an access tool to designing a neural
network for recognizing transfusion reactions. I am not
a medical practitioner, but work with practitioners designing
expert systems. My neighbor, a pathology intern, found this
text independently of me, and also felt it provided an in
depth access to all the transfusion practice and problems
that a practitioner would need. My need was to identify
from uncertain data potentially rare reactions and possible
complications. I also was concerned with the accuracy of
various testing and typing procedures and how they impacted
this data. Mollison's book provides strong statistical and
clinical descriptions as well as qualifiying various practices.
The new edition will undoubtably cover the broad research
performed in blood banks and hemotology practice due to the
HIV problem.
