Editorial Review: Lauren Willig continues the exciting series with her fourth novel, The Seduction of the Crimson Rose, featuring Lord Vaughn, the delightfully devilish spy from The Masque of the Black Tulip, and Mary Alsworthy, the raven-haired beauty whose sister accidentally stole her suitor in The Deception of the Emerald Ring.

Rating: - Another Success for Willig
Mary is an "old maid" whose marriage options seem to have vanished, yet the last thing she wants to do is rely on her new brother-in-law--and former lover--to finance another London season. She agrees to a secretive assignment from the Pink Carnation through the powerful and mysterious Lord Vaughn. She will infiltrate the ranks of the dark and elusive French spy, the Black Tulip, and in return Lord Vaughn will pay for her final chance to find a husband. She unexpectedly finds love and possible happiness, ... Read More
Rating: - Fans of spy and historical mystery books will relish this story
Lauren Willig's SEDUCTION OF THE CRIMSON ROSE is narrated by stage actress kate Reading, who lends an impassioned voice to this modern day 'Pride and Prejudice', continuing a series about Pink Carnation spies during Napoleonic War times. Fans of spy and historical mystery books will relish this story of Mary, who accepts a secret assignment on behalf of the Pink Carnations: to infiltrate the ranks of the Black Tulip, a French spy. Plots, subplots, intrigue and history blends with Eloise Kelly's research into ... Read More
Rating: - Crimson Rose
I've always enjoyed the Pink Carnation series; mainly for the ridiculous love stories and quasi-historicalness. This wasn't my favorite one, but it wasn't bad. Unlike the previous stories, this main character isn't all sugary-nice perfection, and I liked that about her. However, I didn't feel like her 'romance' with the leading man Vaughn was very heartfelt or convincing. For example, they have a passionate moment while he's in bed, pale and sickly from a bullet wound. Uh huh. I was also highly aggravated ... Read More
Rating: - So very dissapointing- and I LOVED her 3 other books-
I was SO dissapointed with this 4th book of hers. I waited 6 months to get it. There is too much description of things like wall paper and things in the house. Not enough action of the spy nature at all. And for you ladies that love the big "finale" sex scene- well there is none to be had. Also, I found the book very, very, slow for the first third of the way through. In fact, I wondered if the same person had written it. Ms. Willig,if you are reading this,I really don't know what you are doing as a second year ... Read More
Rating: - Intriguing Series Continues
This 4th book in the series starting with THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE PINK CARNATION continues the mystery and fun of the earlier books. I really like the way Lauren Willig alternates between her modern day researcher, Eloise Kelly and the British spies from the era of Napoleon, where Eloise is working to uncover the identity of spy known as The Black Tulip. I wish Willig would spend a little more time developing the relationship between Eloise Kelly and her love-interest, Colin Selwick, but I look forward to each ... Read More
