Editorial Review: Think of this long awaited studio album as if it were the first Pretenders record: musical turf that's defined by attitude, lyrical and melodic mastery, and the unexpected...and Chrissie Hynde's voice as you've always known it. "Break Up The Concrete" is an authentic slice of rock Americana, ranging from blistering punk to the most delicate storytelling as told by the queen of rock royalty herself.

Rating: - Chrissie can Rock with the Best
The Pretenders have not made a great album since "Learning to Crawl" ... maybe it's time to try Rick Rubin.
Rating: - I wish i liked it more......
I a huge fan of her's.......she is one of if not the best female rock artist ever.....but am disapointed by this album which is closer to a country music effort than a rock album.
Rating: - Age and Treachery will Defeat Youth and Speed!
For the ever growing band of ageists out there who continue to proclaim talent diminishes with age, this is your wake up call. Ms. Hynde and this latest compilation of Pretenders let it rip with unapologetic gusto and deliver one of the best ablums of the year. Give it a listen and get an education. You will not be dissappointed.
Rating: - This recording is everything you would expect and more!
I was expecting to hear some quality music from this CD and I wasn't disappointed! After hearing Boots of Chinese Plastic on the radio I had to have this album. I was really impressed with the variety that the tunes deliver. It goes through different styles of music and executes them well. The Nothing Maker has a folk feel to it and Don't Lose Faith is bluesy enough to ad to your favorite blues list. Other selections remind you of the older material from past recordings.I especially liked Rosalee, ... Read More
Rating: - The Pretenders very alive and well
It is Chrissie's voice that make the Pretenders great and she always has band members around her that play with economy, skill and empathy. Break up the Concrete is mostly a return to the band's sound circa 1982 [my favorite era]. Song writing is solid and the results should appeal to long time fans AND to listeners much younger than myself. I recommend the purchase of this cd and to catch the band live if you have the opportunity.
