Editorial Review:Maximize Your Genetic Potential

Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN

An interview with Ruth DeBusk, PhD, author of Genetics: It's Not Just Your Genes, The Nutrition Connection, Herbs as medicine: What you should know, and Integrative Medicine: Your Quick Reference Guide.

Dr. DeBusk's book, It's Not Just Your Genes! introduces the fascinating world of genomics. Genetic technologies are revolutionizing health care, and in order to take full advantage of the advances emerging from this field, you need to get comfortable with its language and concepts. Today we know that rather than viewing our genetic makeup as a hand of cards that have already been dealt, we have the power to use the information encoded in our genes to help us make informed choices that will maximize our genetic potential. Reading our personal genetic "message" is like having access to a treasure map one that can lead us, in excellent health, into a ripe old age.

In this interview:

•Find out how your lifestyle affects your genes

•Learn about the science and field of nutrigenomics

•Find out about how you can easily do genetic testing and what the results will show you

•Understand how nutrigenomics tests for your potential to illness rather than a specific disease

•Realize that your genes aren't set in stone

•Find out the benefits of eating cabbage family foods

•Hear how exercise turns on healthy genes

•Learn about why some people are more sensitive to foods, drugs, and the world they live in than other people

•Discover how our genes and environment interact to create our health
