Editorial Review: Following a lukewarm response to her Matthew-Herbert produced left-field solo debut Ruby Blue, ex-Moloko singer Róisín Murphy has opted to go properly pop. Bringing together the best bits of Madonna, Giorgio Moroder, and the Eurythmics, and mixing them up with acid house basslines and elastic disco grooves, Overpowered is a bid at crossover dance music stardom if ever there was one. It's a persuasive gambit too. By teaming up with trendy beatmakers like Bugz in the Attic and Groove Armada, Murphy has ensured a pumping, clean, and highly individual soundtrack, over which she scatters her equally idiosyncratic lyrics and endearing vocal delivery. The Goldfrapp-esque "Movie Star," the wickedly insouciant "Footprints," the searing "You Know Me Better," and the title track all bristle with authentic dance-floor energy. There are some excellent slower tracks too--not least the dubby finale--and though not every song reaches for the sky, there's a cosmic dimension at work that puts Murphy way ahead of most of her dance-pop competitors. --Paul Sullivan
EMI Records is proud to present 'Overpowered', the second album from Róisín Murphy. A heady mix of electronic dance anthems, soul-stirring pop songs, deep, dark funk and quirky lyrical genius, 'Overpowered' is a thrilling and contemporary marriage of edgy pop and irresistible disco. Róisín co-wrote and co-produced the entire album, bringing her own vision and focus to these songs whilst working with a variety of producers, writers and mixers to create what is without doubt her finest record; unpredictable, creative, inventive, exciting and hugely accessible. Working with the likes of Seiji, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Jimmy Douglass, Ill Factor, and Parrot & Dean of All Seeing I / I Monster, Róisín has brought her love of the dance floor right to the very heart of the album. 'Overpowered' is the place where pop meets dance and gives birth to a glitter-drenched masterpiece. This is one of the albums of the year - a breathtaking modern classic. The first single proper from the album will be "Let Me Know" which is released a week before the album on October 8th.

Rating: - Utterly overpowered!
This is what many have been trying to create in the past few years, what with this interest and revival of 80s music/sounds. Except for one minor mishap, a track which you will surely forgive for having been included in this otherwise great record, Roisin and all the people involved in her latest creation have come up with a gem that outshines efforts by most other 'artists'. I can't wait to hear her next album.
Rating: - I'm Overpowered...
...by how much I love this CD.
She reminds me of a modern Annie Lennox.
Love it! It's not as experimental as Ruby Blue (also great, but in a different sort of way). It's just fun pop music, but still unique and edgy enough to not get confused with modern Prefab pop like B. Spears, etc. She's not only a great singer, but she has a very sexy voice!
I recommend Overpowered.
Rating: - brillance !!
absolute brilliance from roisin , if you like dance music this is
for you !
Rating: - She's waited her turn, She's waited in LINE!
I cannot possibly claim to have objectivity or even make sense when it comes to Roisin: maybe a year ago but certainly not now.
If I start to examine the songs it will turn into War and Peace, so I'll give some barebones impressions:
Roisin has been honing her craft as a singer, songwriter, stage presence and producer for over twelve years now. She's contributed to the creation of 6 critically lauded studio albums with Moloko and by herself. Her lyrical skills are among ... Read More
Rating: - Freshest Sound in YEARS!
I am a Canadian who only heard about this album from a review on amazon.com on another artist where someone suggested people check out "Overpowered". Well, I did and I truly was overpowered by the strength of this record! Honestly, the freshest and best dance/pop I have heard in YEARS.
I am a big fan now and have bought all the singles in support of this album. I do so because it is worth it, but also because UK radio doesn't seem to give her airplay and their is zero promotion in North ... Read More
