The Express media Player lets you enjoy CDs and DVDs without having to boot up WIndows, making it perfect for travellers looking for entertainment. The integrated 802.11 wireless LAN lets you work and play on the move, whether you're on the road or heading to the office. DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) drive supporting 11 formats 15.4 widescreen TruBrite TFT LCD display; 1280 x 800 (WXGA) native resolution ATI Radeon XPress 200M 64MB-128MB dynamically-allocated shared graphics memory RGB (monitor) output, S-Video, microphone input, headphone output, USB 2.0 (4 ports), iLINK, RJ-45, RJ-11 Operating Systems - Windows XP Media Center 2005 (Windows Vista capable) Unit Dimensions - 14.2 x 10.5 x 1.45 Weight - Approx. 6 lbs.
Easily mobile at just 6 pounds, the Toshiba Satellite A105-S2201 makes it easy to get your work done with a large, bright 15.4-inch screen (which is also great for watching DVD movies when you need a break). This affordable notebook PC also features a battery-sipping 1.6 GHz Celeron M 420 processor, an 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), dual-layer multiformat DVD drive that also burns CDs, integrated 54g wireless connectivity, ATI Radeon XPress 200M video card with up to 128 MB of shared video RAM, and Windows XP Home edition operating system. This is a Windows Vista capable PC. The Basics - Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) has become the average size for notebook PCs, though it's larger than the size found in comparable ultra-light notebooks. It provides enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and productivity software.
- Processor: The Intel Celeron M Processor 420 is designed specifically for mobile computing, offering a balanced level of mobile-optimized processor technology, good mobile performance, and exceptional value. The 1.6 GHz speed resides at the very top of the spectrum for this processor (as of March 2006). It also features a fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and good-sized 1 MB L2 cache. The 420 lies near the top of the spectrum for this processor class (October 2006). (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a good start for power users, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add up to 2 GB of RAM for worry-free handling graphics-intensive presentations and multiple open business productivity applications.
- CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 2.4x DVD+R DL, 2x DVD-R DL, 8x for both single-layer DVD+R/-R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 3x DVD-RAM, and 24x/10x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.
- Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. It also offers a launch button for the Express CD/DVD media player and control buttons (play, stop, next, previous). With Toshiba's unique Express Media Player, you can won't have to wait for Windows to boot up before you can start a DVD movie or CD. Just a simple press of the button bypasses the system and starts your media playing.
Screen, Graphics and Sound This notebook has a 15.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3-D graphics. It delivers between 64 MB and 128 MB of video RAM shared with the system RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. It also features an integrated audio card with headphone and microphone jacks. Connectivity and Expansion Slots The A105-S2201 has an integrated 802.11b/g wireless-LAN that enables you to easily connect at wireless hotspots wherever you roam You get a fairly basic offering of connectivity options: - 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players

It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, McAfee Internet Security Suite and VirusScan (30 day trials), InterVideo WinDVD and WinDVD Creator, and Sonic Solutions RecordNow. Dimensions and Weight This notebook measures 14.2 x 10.5 x 1.45 (WxDxH) and weighs 6 pounds. I've had this laptop for about 6 months. I do not do anything out of the ordinary on it. I mostly use it for word processing and Internet surfing. I did crash on my once; I do not know why this happened. I could have picked up a virus that went undetected by my virus protection. I believe it was Windows XP fault; not Toshiba's. I lost everything, but was able to reload with the rescue disk and it is working fine. I would recommend this product. Additionally, I have a [...]who likes to watch ... Read More

Purchased this laptop in early Dec. 2006 after a lengthy comparative analysis of existing products. Before buying online, I had a chance to download the users manual from the Toshiba website, and to review set up procedures, functionalities, etc. If you have the time, I strongly recommend this, especially if you are buying any laptop online without seeing it first. After a month of continuous daily use, I do not have much to complain about.
One thing to keep in mind is that all shipped ... Read More

Everything works well on the Laptop except I e-mailed J&R and asked for info on adding to the RAM and they never responded to me. Will I void the warranty by adding to the RAM myself?
