This premium class headphone perfectly combines the strengths of open and closed headphones. The balanced reduction of environmental noise guarantees a perfect spherical sound, while the complete sound spectrum is reproduced in great detail from the lowest sub bass up to the highest frequencies. The higher frequencies are crystal-clear without being unpleasant and impress with a very smooth sound. The precise balanced mid frequencies are analytical and supportive, without being predominate. The bass is voluminous without being too obtrusive. This is a headphone for your inspiration. Beyerdynamic's designers took different human anatomies into consideration and made the headband more variable in lengths in order to fit perfectly on everyone's head. The tight headband pressure that is used for professional versions was reduced for this version to guarantee permanent listening without a "vice-like grip". The single-sided cable plus the optional extension cable allow more freedom of movement. The revised design gives the DT 880 a modern, attractive appearance. The package is rounded up by a stylish high quality aluminum box. In this box you can keep your headphone safe from dust and dirt and it blends perfectly into the ambience.

Rating: out of 5 stars - A near perfect headphone
What is meaning for a perfect headphone? IMHO, a pair of headphones can be used for different type of music in very high quality sounding can be named as perfect headphone. This '05 edition DT880 can sure be named as perfect headphone except it sounds a little flexible for those bass-oriented music. In general, feed it with good records and good amplifier then it can sing. A very easy listening headphone suitable for those music lovers. It would sound much better if co-existing with a tube amplifier. ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Not For Quiet Zones
I highly anticipated these phones blowing me away based on the reviews I'd read. I don't mind spending a dollar, but I do so with expectations of quality and performance. I didn't like the huge 'earmuff' design. The bass response was low and the sound quality is ok (at best). I've had a pair of (Bose) Triports for 2 years and have not had a single problem, defect or repair. I travel a lot, so I wanted to have an extra pair for the office and to take on flights. What a big dissappointment after listening ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - A real contender for the best headphone available
These sound wonderful, especially when driven by a quality headphone amp. Top to bottom, lows, mids and highs, these headphones reproduce all types of music faithfully. The presenation and soundstage are a bit forward of what Sennheiser offers, but not so pronounced as to conflict with more sweeping classical pieces. Even on high-engergy rock music, they shine.

The comfort is top-notch, though if you haven't worn full-size over-the-ear (circumaural) headphones, anything in this class will require ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - A reasonably priced classic
Although I prefer the AKG K701 for most of my listening, this competing entry from Beyer is so close that it's almost a coin toss. (One recent comparison in a headphone artcle came up with a dead heat.)

This is surprising, considering that the DT880 is one of the most reasonably priced of the major mid-priced headphones. The bass is full but nicely textured - not a touch of bass bloat to be found here. The highs are detaied and never seemed sharp to me, and the overall sound offers a huge soundstage. ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - One great headphone
The dt880's are *awesome* headphones. The bass can be very heavy with bass-heavy songs, and earth shattering during orchestral pieces. I can hear details in the mids that I never heard before, like voices sounding throaty and wet lips sticking together. Voices also sound like they're placed in their own special spot in music. The highs can be a bit too much at times, but it is still very sweet sounding to the ears, and extends high. I wrote a decently sized review on this headphone at headphonereviews**, as the user ...
