Rating: - do not buy anything from WD
i brought a WD MyBook 80 gig hard drive. Used it twice. Once to turn it on, then when organised, another time to download all my music and photos for long time storage. I then packed it away for storage for jsut over a year. Just recently i pulled it out of the box to print some photos, and it wouldnt power up. I searched online to troubleshoot and it seems that it is a common problem, WD are aware of the fault. I called them and WASIM (customer support rep) stated it was probably the faulty powering ... Rating: - way more reliable than i imagined
I can't say it's the fastest thing, but it's also the only external I've ever owned. Bought it for 80 bucks after rebate from Circuit City YEARS ago...I'd say about 4. I can't believe it's still going from all the horror stories i hear about external hard drives. I have held my music and pictures on this exclusively...kinda stupid to do that on any hard drive, but either way, it's been working strong.
It is not a traveler. It's kinda big especially for 80gb, and it needs a wall outlet. ... Read More
Rating: - Used for a year with no problems
I've used this drive for a year with no problems. I have not used the automatic backup feature so I can't comment on that. I have done only manual backups of pictures/videos/documents. The drive seems very sturdy and transfers files fairly rapidly. It just took about 14 minutes to transfer 10 GB of videos.
Rating: - It doesnt work
I have only owned this item as for 6 months and it simply stopped working. This is supposed to be my backup and now it absolutely doesnt work. The company requires I pay to fedex it them to Thailand and will not recover the data for me. By the time I ship it and pay for data recovery, if it can be, I will have spent as much as I did on the drive in the first place. Buy from a better company.
Rating: - An excellent, handy product
I have had this product for the past 3 months, and its performance is nothing below exceptional. I use it to regularly back-up my hard-drive. Though slightly heavy, it is easy portable between locations.
