Scholastic once again proves its love for fine storytelling, this time by presenting a delightful, animated adaptation of two Harry Allard classics: Miss Nelson Has a Field Day and Miss Nelson Is Back. When laziness and misbehavior strike the Horace B. Smedley School, a beloved, apple-cheeked teacher transforms herself into the formidable Viola Swamp. Her witchlike face and no-nonsense teaching style are just the ticket to spur Smedley's losing football team to victory, tether a classroom of unruly pranksters, and generally restore order, respect, and cheerful cafeteria helpers to the school campus. Diana Canova perfectly voices James Marshall's comical array of buck-toothed kiddos and teachers. School-age viewers and their parents will easily chuckle over familiar characters like Principal Blandsworth and his diverse throng of students. Each story unfolds against an amusing score that blends marching band fare, ragtime, rubber ducks, and whistled ditties. The DVD version includes three comparatively mild bonus stories, plus a charming interview with the late James Marshall. (Ages 4 and older) --Liane Thomas
MISS NELSON HAS A FIELD DAY: (Music composed by Robert Reynolds, Scotty Huff, and Jerry Dale McFadden) The football team just can't win a game. The whole town is down in the dumps--until the notorious Viola Swamp whips the team into shape.
MISS NELSON IS BACK: (Music composed by Ernest V. Troost) When Miss Nelson is away, the kids in Room 207 are up to no good. They can fool the principal, but not Viola Swamp. Now, the kids can't wait for Miss Nelson's return.
(Both stories written by Harry Allard and illustrated by James Marshall, with narration by Diana Canova.)
DVD Features: Panama; The Three-Legged Cat; The Bear and the Fly; Getting To Know James Marshall; Read Along; Interactive Menus; Story Selection

Rating: out of 5 stars - Miss Nelson video
This video was a fun supplement for my class. We did a story unit on Miss Nelson is Missing. We read and did activities on all three books. My class was surprised when I told them I had a video of 2 of the books we read. They thoroughly enjoyed it!
