Now that Lil' Kim's third solo outing is upon us, it's fair time to pose this question: is this fly Brooklyn female a legitimate MC or just another media sensation? Well, probably a little of both. La Bella Mafia is a refreshingly uncommercial album that demonstrates Kim's hard-earned mic skills, but the set never really hits its stride. Kim seems to be a woman who favors strong musical partners, yet many of the album's collaborations fail to inspire. Swizz Beats is at his abysmal worst (as both rapper and producer) on "This Is Who I Am" while Kim's cookie-cutter rhymes blindly follow his lead. "The Jump Off" features a hot, bhangra-accented Timbaland track that loses momentum when guest star Mr. Cheeks jumps in. But when it works, La Bella Mafia shines. Just check out "Hold It Now," where Havoc ratchets up the temperature with judicious use of the always-funky Beastie Boys sample "Paul Revere" and Kim rises to the occasion with a performance worthy of her Queen Bee title. --Rebecca Levine
Everyone's favorite hardcore female rapper returns with her hottest and hardest effort to date. Lil' Kim is joined by her friends Missy Elliot, Method, Styles P, Governer, Twista and Mashonda Tifere. Includes a limited bonus collectible card inside unlocking exclusive photos, videos and much more. Queen Bee/Atlantic. 2003.

Rating: out of 5 stars - La Bella Mafia - 3.5 stars
I'd always liked the persona of Lil Kim and enjoyed her big hits from her debut cd but had never purchased one of her albums till this one. When she debuted I compared her lyrics and "act" to great female rappers of the past and sadly, wrote Lil Kim off because I thought that her lack of clothing, excessive profanity and lack of substantive lyrics set the female rap game back to when females weren't respected in the genre.

Of Kim's releases, I bought this album first because I really ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - The JUMP OFF! 3 1/2 stars
Lil' Kim is admired among the hip hop community because she was one of the first successful female artists in the rap world. Not just that, though. Her lyrics pushed the envelope because of the sexual openness within them. Also, she is the former girlfriend of a man described as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Biggie. Women and men alike love Lil' Kim because of her realness. "La Bella Mafia" is definitely a solid album because of the infectious beats, decent hooks, good lyrics, and, of ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - What is she doin?
First Kim was tryin to be white. Then italian and now white again. This chick changes like the seasons. Her whole image is as fake as the white skin she's tryin' to purchase. Man f*** this album, her, and all her fans. Pure trash hip pop at it's fullest. What has happened to music in the last 6 yaers?!

Rating: out of 5 stars - 4 1/2 mics?? Are they crazy???
the source gave this album 4 1/2 mics. this album was so bad and pointless that i had to force myself to go past track 5. her first album was real good, but they get worse and worse after that. every song i heard ice this, rim this, and cristile this, thats so laaaaaame. while she was working on her new "barbie doll" looks she should have been working on her album. Biggie is in heaven with his head down...
