The greatest compliment that can be paid to any rockabilly band is that they sound authentic. Many have tried, some have come close, but on their 1992 sophomore effort, Big Sandy (Robert Williams) and his Fly-Rite Trio got it right, as in nailed it. Originally recorded down in Valdosta, Georgia, On the Go celebrates its 10th anniversary with a stateside release and a group of bonus tracks. Guitarist T.K. Smith made a name for himself with this album, putting him in a class with other six-string stars of the genre. Big Sandy and the lads have gone off in several directions in the course of the last 10 years, but here, in the beginning, they were spot on, and having this cult classic disc return signifies a joyous moment in an otherwise dreary world. --Henry Cabot Beck

Rating: out of 5 stars - Elvis would have been in trouble...
If these guys had been around competing with his sound. Then again, they owe a lot to Elvis and his contemporaries. Get this one if you'd like to hear Big Sandy at its peak, when every song had that powerful, rockin', driven feel to it. They have mellowed out considerably since this release, so I like to go back and listen to On the Go when in the mood for some loud, crazy, goota-dance rockabilly.

Rating: out of 5 stars - When They Were A Rockabilly Band . . .
This is the one to pick up if you want the Big Sandy sound when it was still Rockabilly. It's just better pound for pound than the - also Rockabilly - debut. Plus it's the last album with their great original guitarist, T.K. Smith (who went on to play some fine Hillbilly in The Smith Ranch Boys). I don't see how the other reviewer would call his playing "jazzy". Is Scotty Moore also "jazzy"? Anyway, this is my favorite Big Sandy release period. The albums after this were all more Western Swing (and ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - The rockabilly side of Big Sandy
Most of Big Sandy's cd's feature a more western swing oriented group, thsi cd features the trio, which concentrates more on rockabilly, or hillbilly bebop, rather then the full Fly Rite Boys Combo which play more on western swing side. This is a pleasant album, that doesn't have teh exitement of Lee Jeffries steel guitar solos, but still is a great set of rockabilly. Though his western swing albums like "Swingin' West" and "Fellin Kinda Lucky" are superior, this set is as good as one would expect ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - A nice rockabilly session
Although teh steel guitar is soarly missed, thsi is more of a straight rockabilly set, and it is terrific. I have seen Big Sandy dozens of times in person, and this cd captures what one of his live shows would be like without the steel guitar. Very interesting.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Best Big Sandy by far!
Having seen Big Sandy play live too many times to count, I enjoy his performances but his recorded material has always been boring for me. This re-issue of one of his first records is a pleasant surprise as it sounds nothing like anything he has recorded in the past 5-6 years. The songs are more rockin' and less "western swing" than his recent songs. Some of the songs just flat out don't sound like Big Sandy, which is a compliment and a good thing. This is a great CD for those who have ... Read More
