As an all-powerful dictator, you'll manipulate resources to create your own thriving Caribbean paradise while lining your personal Swiss bank accounts. The Tropico: Paradise Island expansion pack features new scenarios, people, vehicles, and buildings to increase the clout of el Presidente and intensify his lust for power.
The expansion pack forces players to deal with the disastrous effects of tropical weather in the form of hurricanes and tropical storms, hoof-and-mouth disease, and red tide. Such disasters can translate into both economic and human losses. Fragile buildings crumble, including homes, docks, and bunkhouses. Crops are lost and morale decreases. As el Presidente, the player must restore the island's beauty and the people's faith in him.
Other features include more than 20 new scenarios, including a Gilligan's Island spoof, other tourism scenarios, and military challenges. New characters include ecotourists and spring-break tourists with boats that cater to their personalities. New dictator attributes allow for the success of even the most evil ruler.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Makes The Game Play More Fun!
This was the expansion pack for the original Tropico. I purchased this immediately upon release because I enjoyed the original Tropico so much. One thing I don't like about the game or the expansion pack is the huge amount of space it takes up on the computer. That aside, this expansion pack offers some extra enjoyment. You get some new businesses and dwellings. Some are more exciting that others, like El Presidente's Childhood home is a pretty useless attraction, but the Sportsplex and other ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Time Tested and included
The "add-on" has been tested by the game fans. There has been a patch issued to fix the most annoying bugs. (#1.51)

However, the most important issue is that this add-on (along with the important patch) has been incorporated in a later edition of the game. That edition is called "Mucho Macho." It sells at discount prices all over the place.

So instead of looking for the "add-on" CD (listed as "not available" here), just look for the "Mucho Macho" edition. It is a great game. ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Disappointed in Lack of Mac Release
The original Tropico was released to Mac gamers, but this expansion pack still hasn't been. I'm disappointed, as the original was a very entertaining simulation game. I'm not holding out much hope for a Mac relase of Tropico 2 when it comes out this winter, either. Us stubborn Mac users deserve to be benevolent dictators of our own banana republics, too, you know!

Rating: out of 5 stars - Being a Dictator Was Never So Easy
I found the original Tropico to be a terrific game and I'm glad to see that my main complaint - the inability to rotate most of the buildings - has been addressed to some degree in the expansion. I haven't played the expansion for long, but I did play long enough to appreciate the new speed with which buildings are completed. My only complaint is that not all of the buildings can be rotated. I can only wonder why this is. If you liked the original Tropico, you won't be disappointed with this update.

Rating: out of 5 stars - a great game just got better!
Paradise Island is awesome! It has re-newed my interest in Tropico and contains many game enhancements such as new buildings which can be rotated, new tourists (spring break and "eco") and some new edicts which I enjoy. Also, the buildings are constructed faster to satisfy the impatient gamer. ;) As if Tropico itself wasn't cool enuf already, Paradise Island makes it even better! If you like Tropico as I do (bought it when it first came out), then you gotta get the expansion! You will not ... Read More
