Editorial Review: The writer of cheerleader classic Bring It On makes her directing debut with another movie built around a classic sport for girls: gymnastics. No one knows why Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym, Life As We Know It) walked away in the middle of a high-profile gymnastics competition--but after given a choice between returning to gymnastics or going to juvenile detention, Haley finds herself under the tutelage of Burt Vickerman (Jeff Bridges, The Big Lebowski, Fearless), a trainer with a tough-love approach and a dubious reputation for getting his students injured. As they learn to work together, they discover they share a hatred for the narrow, unbending rules by which gymnastic routines are judged. Almost all sports movies are fables of wild talent getting harnessed by discipline. In Stick It, wild talent bites back with a little political awakening--in fact, the movie's main weakness is that it doesn't get political enough; the rebellion at the end happens too quickly, too easily. But what you'll remember from the movie are sequences that revel in the sheer beauty of gymnastics, montages that fuse the visual styles of Busby Berkeley and Leni Riefenstahl into a dizzying adulation of grace and athleticism. --Bret Fetzer
Defy And Conquer. When a rebellious ex-gymnast is forced back into the rigid world of rules conformity and spandex she brings her in-your-face attitude along. Rating: - Awesome!
Stick it is a fun movie to watch with teenagers, especially if they are interested in sports and have lived through the arduous work-outs of gymnastics.
The main character, Haley Graham, beautifully played by Missy Peregrym, is a troubled teen who walked out of a competition because her family was coming apart, but her friends think she simply quit, giving up her right to win first place. A rather amazing pirouette on a bike lands her in trouble with the police, and she is sentenced ... Read More

My 3-year-old boy loves this movie. That means I have seen it at least 50 times. I can still watch it, and I still find things I haven't seen before - probably because I'm always having to get up to get something for someone during the movie. Our first disk got scratched, somehow, so we're ordering a 2nd.
Rating: - Exhuberant, Re-Watchable, Feel-Good
This is an energetic movie that will brighten your mood. No big surprises, no high art, but well done and entertaining. And it has good politics. Fun to watch and rewatch.
Rating: - Love it!
This is a great movie if you're into gymnastics or dance. Even if you're not, it really inspires you to do it--but remember, it's not called "gym-NICE-stics."
