Editorial Review: Sade's brand of elegant pop/R&B owned the charts in the '80s, making the Nigerian/British chanteuse one of those artists whose very name becomes the adjective to describe their sound. After an eight-year layoff, Sade and her core band (and longtime producer Mike Pela) are back with a CD that is both a stunning reaffirmation of her artistry and a solid soulful collection. Perhaps the best thing that can be said about Lovers Rock is that it picks up where Sade left off, which means you will hear no cool beats or hot hired hands or hip-hop cameos. This is Sade music, and on the first single, "By Your Side," she glides back into the spotlight on gentle, countryish, sparse wings--singing, once again, about love's power to redeem. Of course, Sade knows that love can stink: listen to the dub-riddim-tinged "Every Word" and cry tears of recognition. Decidedly female but utterly universal, grown up yet not hardened, Lovers Rock ranks as one of the best of the year, and marks the return of a true original. --Amy Linden

Rating: - My favorite CD
I love every song on this CD! My two favorite's are Every Word and By Your Side. I've been listening to this CD for years and never get tired of it. I love it! :)
Rating: - Sade continues to sing music to my ears..
I've been listening to Sade since her debut and she never ceases to amaze me with wonderful vocals. From start to finish, each of her CD's tells a series of stories that anyone who's been in love can relate to. Her voice captures all those emotions and lulls you into that 'special' place in your heart. Sade will always be a part of my music collection.

Nothing is more brain atrophying than being conned by someone you initially had such hopes for. For 15 years before the release of 'Lovers Rock' in 2001, I've grasped onto an iota of desperation that she will at the very least equal her enjoyable-cum-guilty pleasure debut in 1985. But all that's manifested every few years - as well as on 'Lovers Rock' - is a DOA compendium of lethargic tunes whispered in a voice so consistent in its tone-deaf monotony it's actually soporific. As usual, the band's ... Read More
Rating: - a review of this CD, not Sade
Take a look at all the 4 and 5 star reviews... nearly every one praises Sade the artist, her voice, how we fell in love with her first album, etc. I'm sorry, I love most of Sade's work, but I don't rate a CD 4 or 5 stars simply because I like the artist as a whole. If you look for honest reviews of this CD, I agree with them- this is easily her weakest work. It's simply boring. And where's her band? I don't believe they're on here- and they're sorely missed- there's no sax, and the drum machine ... Read More
Rating: - Sade Rocks!!!!
I love this entire CD and have been a huge fan of Sade ever since she first hit the scene. I was in Germany when I got her first ALBUM, and I have to be honest, I didn't buy it because I loved her music just then, I bought it because of the beautiful woman on the cover. Little did I know that I would love it, and have since bought everything she has ever put out and not once been disappointed!!! She has always made great music, and everything on them is something to love. "Lovers Rock" is definitely ... Read More
