Editorial Review: If you've heard Shel Silverstein's bawdy Freakin' at the Freakers Ball, your notion of the man who wrote Where the Sidewalk Ends might've been skewered. Silverstein was nothing if not a tad twisted. But his twists and turns in world of children's arts were well considered and infectiously charming. When he recorded poems and rhymes from Sidewalk, the book was nearly a decade old. But he brought the words to life, albeit a funky, sometimes nasally delivered, sometimes abruptly jolted life. Silverstein knew that his changes in voice pitch, his quickly dashed mixes of spare guitar and pinched singsong delivery, and, most of all, his rhythmically fetching words were ideal for hearing. Sidewalk, which took home a 1984 Grammy for best children's album, still stands boldly above (or at least apart from) so much of what's recorded for kids. One should expect nothing less than pretzeled genius from the guy who wrote such pop hits as "The Unicorn," "A Boy Named Sue," and "On the Cover of Rolling Stone." And that's what comes through on this expanded Sidewalk, with its 11 newly added snippets (including "Hector the Collector," "Hungry Mungry," and "If I Had a Brontosaurus"). If it's a rhyme you're after, look no further. --Andrew Bartlett

Rating: - great way for little one to enjoy shel
this audio format is a great way for toddlers to be introduced to the magic of silverstein's poetry. (no pesky pages to rip and tear) a very entertaining cd.
Rating: - Love it!
I use this with my fourth grade students and they want to listen to Shel Silverstein 24/7! He is a master at reading his poetry - and the CD is worth owning if you have kids of any age. I love it too.
Rating: - It's a classic
I had heard Shel Silverstein's spoken rendition of "Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout" before, and loved his books of poetry. The rest of the album met every expectation I had. Any fan of Silverstein will love this.
Rating: - Shel Silverstein Brings His Poems To Life
My children and I would spend many a night listening to the creative genius of Mr Silverstein. My son's favorite was "Sister for Sale". I saved the tape for when I had grandchildren. My grandson arrived in 2006. My children remember those wonderful moments we shared even today. I hope you and your special little ones enjoy it as much as our family has. I was ecstatic to find it in a CD.
Rating: - quickly arrived
I actually thought that I was buying the book so was a little disapointed when it arrived. BUt it is in perfect condition and came very quickly. Next time I just need to pay more attention to the description.
