Editorial Review: The Tonka Dig'n Rigs Playset is one of those very rare products that really does educate and entertain on a parallel level. As much toy as it is a piece of software, the digger controls (steering wheel, ignition key, horn, and three control levers) will amuse little hands for hours, while the CD-ROM works by presenting children with a number of "jobs" or activities, and getting them to complete tasks and interact with the onscreen action. This not only encourages youngsters to react to instructions, but also enhances hand-to-eye coordination and fosters an understanding of cause and effect. It is also a superb way of introducing youngsters to the PC and keyboard. Chunky, imaginative, and, more importantly, possessing ultimate play appeal for children (what child ever tires of pushing buttons, turning wheels, and pulling and pushing levers?), it is a fantastic way of refining gross motor skills to the finer level required for mice and keys. But probably the best thing about this set, from a parental point of view, is its ease of installation and portability. Just place it over the keyboard and it slots into place. A belt then straps around the keyboard to hold it in place when your toddler inevitably gets excited. And, when it becomes the favorite toy of the moment, it is easy to pop in a bag and take to Grandma's (whether she has a PC or not!). It is a superb toy and developmental aid that kids will love and parents will feel good about. --Lucie Naylor
This PC-compatible CD-ROM playset fits on top of your keyboard and features a driving wheel, a key, a gearshift, and lift controls, so budding young construction workers can get creative. Join Tonka Joe at one of four work sites, pick your rig, and complete a variety of construction jobs. Bulldoze, excavate, swing the wrecking ball, power the forklift, and more. Also included are four skill-building games, which promote color matching, hand-eye coordination, following directions, and problem solving. You can also print decals, vehicle information, coloring pages, and certificates for a job well done. The playset fits most standard Windows keyboards; it is not intended for use on laptops or ergonomic keyboards.

Rating: - As a hand me down, it still works....
I've read several of the bad reviews about broken software and controls. We received this game and controls as a hand me down from a neighbor who's child has out grown it. It is now running quite nicely on my Gateway XP box and the controls have now gone thru 2 kids and haven't shown any signs of wearing. The controls do come off the keyboard sometimes when my daughter pulls or twists the wheel too hard, but that is easily fixed.
I guess with any product you can expect to find a few ... Read More

This game does not need anymore reviews, but I had to say what a great game and so much variety. You choose between 4 trucks and each has many games. Do not buy another tonka game this is the only really good one. I bought most of them! I even played the restaurant game it was very funny to try to get all the orders with out getting some food on the floor!!
Rating: - best game we ever bought
This game has really stood the test of time. We ordered it online about 4 years ago. It has worked everytime, entertaining all the children in the neighbourhood, including my son age 7 and daughter age 3.
I strongly recommend this game, it really is fun.
Rating: - 2+ Years Of Fun
My 4-year old has loved this game since before he was 2. He still can play it for hours and has learned to play it together with his friends. They'll take turns driving or will divide up the controls and work together as a team. Now he's introducing his younger sister to it (19 months) and she loves it as well.
Our controller has stood up to over 2 years of use.
Rating: - A huge disappointment!
We bought this set and my 3 boys just loved playing with it. However, it the midst of playing, a part that controls the steering wheel as it moves to the right broke off inside the playset and therefore, they cannot play the game anymore. I contacted Atari, which currently owns the game, and was disappointed when they told me I would have to purchase an entirely new game! I don't think I want to spend another $100 on this game that might just break again.
