Editorial Review: That whirring "squeeeeeeee" sound you hear is the sound of your inner remote-control car, revving its engine and spinning its little rubber tires in an attempt to get you to buy Re-Volt. Here's what happens if you take your inner minicar's advice: You'll spend your first race laughing hysterically, spinning out of control to smash into curbs, the tires of parked cars, and other relatively gigantic hazards of the suburban streets. By your second race, you'll be conscious that part of your problem is that the cars competing with you are forcing you into oil slicks and blasting you thigh-high with rockets they're grabbing from the pick-up icons scattered around the track. When you've got a grip on what you're in for, you'll go back to the selection of eight cars available to rookie drivers and choose one whose acceleration, top speed, and weight seem to suit your driving style. Wait a minute--weight? Yup, in just one example of how Re-Volt lovingly models tiny-car physics, weight plays a huge role in how your car jumps, how likely it is to land on all four of its tires instead of its hood when it gets flipped, how it fares in collisions, and how much traction it gets in gravel or sand. You'll be lucky if sand and gravel are the worst things you have sprayed in your face. The tracks loop through many splendidly rendered environments, including burb-land streets, a supermarket, a toy store, a ghost town, and a natural-history museum. You'll never get a chance to enjoy the scenery during a race, so you've got two options. If you're alone, choose the replay feature after your race and enjoy different angles on the action every time. If you've got company, let a friend play, and ogle the beautiful 3-D scenery over their shoulder. If your friends are like ours, they'll thank you by buying their own copy so that they can play against you online! And speaking of online access, make sure to visit www.revolt.com and download Acclaim's patch for the game. Without the patch, several tracks won't work right. With the patch, all will be well. So go ahead--listen to your inner mini-muscle car! When someone manufactures a game with a charming premise, scintillating graphics, and game play that's this much fun, you start wondering why so many other games settle for so much less. --Rob Heinsoo Pros: - Fun, fun, fun
- Slick graphics
- Devoted online following
Cons: - Patch required to access all the tracks properly
- Clunky option and setup menus
For years, Toy-Volt has been producing toys and games for children all over the world. Within months of introducing their first products, Toy-Volt shot to the top! No one could put their finger on exactly what it was that made the toys so popular. Sure, they employed the best designers and marketers in the world, but there was something else about Toy-Volt toys, something almost... magic. With their latest product, it appears that they've used a little too much of that special something, because the radio-controlled cars just off the production line have gained minds of their own! Escaping from the shelves that held them prisoners, the RC (radio-controlled) cars have escaped into the real world, and they're heading your way! Brand-new models, old favorites, even some experimental prototypes--the entire product line of RC cars from the fine folks at Toy-Volt has come out to play. They're causing plenty of chaos as they test their newfound freedom. You'll be racing inside, outside, upside down, and backwards! These RC cars are fast and spunky, each with different qualities and looks. As you progress, you'll unlock more and more cars to race and more and more courses to race on. Of course, sometimes the Toy-Volt cars don't play nice, making for lots of lightning-fast laps where you've got to fight oil with oil and ball bearings with ball bearings. You'll be racing around the neighborhood, around the supermarket, to places you only dreamed of racing an RC--like on the track you dream up using the Track Editor, or maybe on the pitching decks of a huge ship, or maybe you'll be good enough to unlock a Reverse Mirrored Track! But why waste time talking about all the fun when you can start having it?

Rating: - My review of Re-volt
8 rookie cars are pretty ok, but when Amtur, Advance, and the others come, that's when it's good.
7 tracks are good, but when 13 tracks come along, it becomes better.
The Custom Editor is great, I mostly made track then using the main
tracks.
The pacth makes the tracks Reversed, Flip Flop, and Reversed Flip Flop.
Rating: - Don't have to recharge the batteries
As an avid R/C car hobbyist, I love this game. Though it's a few years old, I have not found another PC videio game that equals or exceeds the level of fun playing this game. On the PC, the graphis are stunning. Every winter when it's to wet and rainy outside for me to run my real R/C cars, I fall back to playing Re-Volt. Buy a copy and play online.
Rating: - the best game the world

I found this game at a yard sale and unfortunitly it had a small scratch that made the game freeze up while i was playing the first track. So what did I do... Got ticked and went out and bought a new version of the game. It is one of the best games I got for for the money, being that alot of games nowadays are a little on the pricey side. After showing it to my 2 neighbors... they went out and bought their own copies and now we will stay up late into the night racing against each other (much to ... Read More
Rating: - THE BEST GAME EVER
For christmas my friend bought me Re-Volt and I have to admit I was pessimistic. Despite my doubts, driving through toy stores or finding hidden shortcuts in the neighborhood. Then, all the tracks were beaten--in forward reversed, mirrored, ect.. I Unlocked nearly all of the cars and also the disappointing "clockwork carnage" (a game with crazy wind up cars going to fast to control--spinning out with the slightest bump)after finding all of the stars in "stunt mode." I was bored. One day, I randomly ... Read More
