Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand star as sociopolitical opposites--he's a WASP novelist, she's an activist--who nevertheless strike up a romance in the 1930s, and have a rocky relationship through the next two decades that reflects much of America's history. An essential part of the movie--the Hollywood blacklist and the McCarthy witch- hunt years--comes across as a botch, due to some excessive cutting before the film was released. But except for that hole in the heart of the story, director Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa) has crafted a strong and moving drama about two interesting characters. Redford (always good with Pollack) is at the height of his powers, and Streisand is persuasive. --Tom Keogh
Sensitive and moving tale of the romance of two individuals whose political and religious ideologies are exact opposites. Streisand plays a Jewish student radical in love with a conservative young Protestant writer.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Barbra Streisand: The Way We Were
Grammy, Emmy, Academy Award and Tony winner Barbra Streisand was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her role in this 'Perfect' movie. What a performance, what a great movie. The movie has a political edge to it ... such as the 2008 Presidential Primary race, where Hillary Clinton earned more votes than any of her rivals, and earned 311 Electoral votes, to her Party's presumptive nominee's 227 ... 270 needed to win in the November General Election- The Party actually chooses it's nominee ... Rating: out of 5 stars - "So True To Life"
"The Way We Were" is still true to life today. Divorce in America has become as common as marriage itself. This movie is an example that people can fall in and out of love without degrading each other. The final scene of the movie says it all. If you are in love, have ever been in love, or if you are falling out of love, "The Way We Were" is a must see.

Rating: out of 5 stars - The Way We Were Review
I love, love, love, love, love this movie. It's fantastic! I'll be honest, I got this movie because I remember the infamous gals from Sex and the City talking about it in one of the episodes. I'm glad they 'introduced' me to this movie. It is awesome!

Rating: out of 5 stars - The Way We Were
This is a movie classic. This movie will tug at your heart- if you ever shared a deep love for someone you couldn't have you'll see what I mean when you watch this movie. Just hearing Barbra Striesand sing in this movie is a plus in itself.

Rating: out of 5 stars - If you love Streisand...........
You have to see this; it's a very mature love story with strong political undertones and two people who feel they cannot settle for anything less than their dreams.

Streisand has been an actress that appears to have a love/hate effect on the audience; you either love her or hate her, for whatever reason. She has a strong personality in real life and the director allows her character to show it full force in this film. It's a classic that needs to be seen more often. It is more of a ... Read More
