Rating: - It was in French
I guess I did not notice but the cd is done in french. I still enjoyed the music and I could make out some words. Took French in College but got a D.
Rating: - nostalgia hits again
My father had a copy of the original pressing of this album and there was a time when I played it every day. The melodies are charming and the lyrics -- simple, but poetic. Dominique may have been the catchy hit, but there are several others -- slower ones -- which move me in a way that it doesn't. Between the Stars and I Should Like to Be remain evocative to this day. For unpretentious, gentle, introspective music -- regardless of your theology -- the ill-fated Soeur Sourire still sings you into ... Read More
Rating: - Singing Nuns Rock!
The reason I decided to purchase this DVD is because when I was a young girl in New Orleans, I played this album every night as I drifted off to sleep. Only the title song, "Dominique," hit the charts at #4, I believe, but every single song they recorded was divinely beautiful. Rating: - This is Wonderful Music
As a little girl, I listened to this album (vinyl -- original release)almost every day. I had no idea that it was famous, or the story of "Sister Smile", just that I loved the comforting beauty of the music. Being born in 1974, I don't recall much in the way of music that existed specifically for kids -- I listened to my parents' old 45's (Beatles and R&B) and Dave Brubeck. Anyway, this music was like that for me; soothing and uplifting, and innocent. I had NO idea that it is available on CD, and I am ... Read More
Rating: - Ms. Decker's Story is Profound
The Singing Nun (Jeanine Deckers)produced an album which was a one-hit-wonder during the 1960s -- bringing her an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and even a Hollywood movie starring Debbie Reynolds. There's plenty of saccharine there. Inside all the saccharine, there is an incredibly complex story of a real human life that has lessons and puzzles for all of us. I'd recommend consulting the Wikipedia for a short biography of Ms. Deckers. Listen to the clips. Buy the album. You won't regret it. The music ... Read More
