There are a couple of Santana best-of compilations out there, and even a few mastersound gold-plated CDs, but this collection is as good a place as any for a newcomer to explore. It contains the band's three essential charters--"Black Magic Woman," "Evil Ways," and "Oye Como Va"--along with some lesser hits. Santana broke barriers, making ethnic-influenced music palatable to the mainstream, but this set doesn't sound like a history lesson. Few bands have ever made better music for driving on a hot summer day, and this CD is ideal for blasting out the windows of your car on a crowded thoroughfare. --Charles R. Cross

Rating: out of 5 stars - latin rock delivers
carlos santana is the king of latin rock and has been for 40 years now and this is his best, leaning heavely on his early years (as it should) you get all his best tracks from black magic woman to the searing souls sacrifice. this is great rock from start to finish,it does have a few great tracks missing like Toussaint L'Overture and Guajira but these can be found on vol 2. so if your looking for some santana this is what your looking for.highly reccomended

Rating: out of 5 stars - Santana for ever
Santana my favorite guitar man, with his especial and unique style of sound, he is the only one exists.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Hey not bad, a pretty good album with Santana's best songs.
This is a great album to get yourself started on Santana, its also a great way to listen to his stuff if you aren't that familiar with any of his older songs or just wanna listen to some great classic rock. I knew about the bigger hits like Oye como va and Black magic women but didn't know his other songs except for the new stuff which I'm not particularly a big fan of, his music is great latin flavored rock music with excellent beats and rhythms. This album has great songs like Black magic woman, ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - What kind of PREJUDICE is this?
Got the cd and immediately (as I often do) open to read credits first. Was intrigued to "get some learning" on the 16 versions of Santana. Of course, I noticed several names that I knew from other acts. but then WOW! It mentions key/vox Leon Patillo as "vanished"? What? Perhaps became for awhile "THE MAN" in another genre (so the speak). Perhaps 2 of the most romantic songs ever written/recorded/covered/sang at weddings he is resposible for -"Flesh of My Flesh" and "Security". But there are soooooo ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Excellent Album!!
Excellent album--a lot of songs I knew, some I'd forgotten about because they haven't had much airplay since they were originally released (example: "Europa" "Winning" & "She's Not There"), as well as a few I wasn't familiar with but enjoyed anyway (ex: "Samba Pa Ti", "Baila Mi Hermana", "Open Invitation", etc). A must-have for any Santana fan. :)
