Rating: - The Bridge Between Old And New Rock
The Smithereens were the musical link between rock tradition and new wave rock, equally at home on active rock (e.g. KISW, KUFO), adult album alternative (e.g. KMTT, KINK), alternative (e.g. KNDD, KNRK), and classic rock (e.g. KZOK, KGON, WBLM) radio stations. Rating: - Blown to Smithereens
The Smithereens were a group that should have gotten more recognition than they did. They did have a lot of singles that performed well on the charts but their albums didn't do as well. Many of their songs were Beatlesque but with more rock, somewhat similar to R.E.M. but more pop. This best of compilation didn't make Billboard's Top 200 chart.

But, will never understand why the song "Time and Time Again" is not included. It's their first song that I heard and absolutely had to have, having heard it for the very first time on the "I Was A Teenage Zombie" soundtrack album.
Rating: - Prepare to be "Blown" away.
Whenever I think of The Smithereens, I think of great simple rock n' roll. No gimmicks, no categorizing, just straight-up rock. Nothing here is really that heavy though, and sure you can call it pop-rock, but it's still catchy as hell. And this really does play through like their ultimate album. Who doesn't know "Blood And Roses", "Only A Memory", or "Blues Before & After"? Of course "Girl Like You" is on here also, with one of the best opening riffs ever. If you only know a few songs here, know ... Read More
