Editorial Review: "Whassup?" welcomes Eric Nies. This 50-minute MTV production from 1996 is a hip, edgy, dance workout in an outdoor city setting. The Grind Dancers (both male and female, and all endowed with youth and muscle) present a "jamming dance routine," followed by a short segment of strength moves. In the long and highly choreographed aerobic segment, the instructors demonstrate a new dance move, then break it down, then invite you to join them. Each move is added on to the ones before until a whole MTV-style routine emerges. Coordination definitely required! This isn't as much an aerobic workout as it is a dance class until you learn the routine because you're constantly stopping and starting. Once you've learned it, they repeat the routine over and over, and sweat will pour. Next, the upper-body weight training session presents eight basic exercises requiring dumbbells (and some require a bench). The videotape expertly instructs how to do each exercise correctly, but you're on your own doing the repetitions--you'll have to pause the tape to do your reps. -- Joan Price

This was one of the first exercise videos that I ever did and I've enjoyed it for more than a few years now. The opening warm up is much longer than most of the other videos I own and it stretches a lot more muscles than, say, the Cardio series does. A good 45 minutes long, the people in it teach the dance steps one at a time and constantly repeat them to ensure that the viewer understands them. The camera work is decent - it doesn't go into too many close-ups and allows the viewer to see the ... Read More
Rating: - barely broke a sweat!
This video did very little for me. Not only was the warm-up too short, the actual dance with each combo gets old real fast. By the third time I did the video I knew the dance and just wanted them to get on with it and stop explaining. Good for low impact or for people with a lack of coordination. If yer looking for a good cardio this video comes up short. And let me tell you, you wont be catching me do any of these moves at a club!
