Editorial Review: Callan Pinckney's Callanetics--a program of nonimpact, deep-muscle exercises--has been popular for decades. In this workout, AM/PM Callanetics, Pinckney presents two 20-minute workouts designed for busy people: an AM Class and a PM Class. "You'll get energized in the morning, completely relaxed in the evening, and of course a great body 24 hours a day," Pinckney promises. She is assisted by a small group of people of varying ages and flexibility levels. The AM Class presents some fairly traditional stretches and other exercises that use a ballet barre (you may substitute a piece of furniture). Some of these are very difficult toning exercises because they work the small muscles (of the hip and outer thigh, for example), and most of the movements are either isometric or little pulses. Most exercise professionals would say that working large muscles through a fuller range of motion is a better use of your time, but Callanetics has always had its followers who claim dramatic results. The PM Class, which she calls "meditation in motion," is quite similar to the morning workout, with more emphasis on stretching. If you're a Callanetics fan, here's a way to divide your workout into two short, manageable parts. --Joan Price

Rating: - I was so sore
I picked this dvd up about 6 months ago. When I did the first routine it seemed so easy, so I didn't bother to do the pm routine. Thinking to myself this is a complete waste of time, because it seemed like I was barely moving. The next morning when I got up, I was so sore!!!!!!!!!!! Legs, butt and arms! I had to stretch to get myself loosened up. Then I went and did the am routine again. Also, this time, later on in the evening, I did the pm routine. My gosh does this work! I love this tape. ... Rating: - Great short workouts
Once you get these exercises memorized, the workouts will be closer to 15 minutes each. But do the exercises with the tape for a while to get the technique and the proper speed down (which is slow). You get most of the exercises from the original (blue) tape, although some are repeated in both segments. Take notes so you can make a "cheat sheet" for when you travel. Please note you really don't need a barre per se--e.g., to do the Pelvic Wave you can hold onto a column or the sides of a doorway. ... Read More
Rating: - The right length for an add-on
Many reviewers have mentioned that this tape is excellent for short morning and evening routines (as its name implies); however, I find the 20-minute length perfect as an add-on to my cardio routines so I tend to alternate one 20-minute workout each day (sometimes every other day). I prefer these to the Quick Callanetics set, as each AM/PM routine is a complete total body program unto itself. I do use Callanetics or Super Callanetics occasionally when I have more time, but this AM/PM program is my ... Read More

YOU WILL DEFINITELY SEE RAPID RESULTS. IT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD ALL OVER-BODY AND SOUL. AND IN RESPONSE TO THE FOLLOWING POST MADE BY "BARBPL": 3 of 11 people found the following review helpful: very boring - little or no challenge February 20, 2001 It's probably just me - perhaps I should have NOT purchased this tape. I was looking for a video that would really help me "jump-start" my day. I found this to be really boring, the movements quite basic and ... Read More
Rating: - Good short Callanetics routines
I recently tried Callanetics for the first time via the original 60-minute program. I loved the short, targeted, effective movements, but because it was difficult for me to find time to do the entire workout, I decided to give the AM/PM tape a try. The two 20-minute workouts on this tape include a majority of the exercises from the original video (some have been left out). Although the workouts are designed to be used in the morning (energizing) and in the evening (relaxing), the inclusion of moves ... Read More
