The story of Grace and Carey's relationship starts out pretty ruff! Grace is sent to boot camp and Carey is the drill sargent from hell(Queen Bitch is how Grace refers to her). Grace has built up walls around her heart and soul that might take Carey and a few push-ups to knock down. Carey knows that there has to be a reason for Grace's bad behavior but, will Grace ever let anyone in to help her? I myself work in a juvenille boot camp and found this story very unrealistic and it danced the edge of inappropriateness. First of all, a juvenille with the record such a Grace's would never comply so easily and secondly a youth would never be permitted to stay in a counselor's living space for such a long period of time.
But if you are not a realist and looking for a quick read about two people falling in love- it's worth the time.

Graceful "Grace" Waters is an angry and beligerent 17-year-old. Chock full of attitude and bucking authority at every opportunity, she soon finds her smart-mouth landing her in front of the same judge for the umpteenth time. Patience worn thin, the judge sentences Grace to Sapling Hill - a place specifically designed for Grace's brand of attitude.

Wonderfully paced novel. I didn't think I would enjoy the premise of a juvenile delinquent but I bought the novel anyway because I have enjoyed the authors' other stories. This was just a wonderfully plotted novel and you would swear that they were real people. Grace's home life just breaks your heart. And Carey's firm and steady handling of Grace's six months in rehab were wonderful and totally believable.

I read -- a lot. In the past year alone, I've read about 80 books. Many of them can't hold a handle to this one. For starters, let me admit that I'm a big fan of B.L. Miller and Verda Foster. Their writing, both individually and collaboratively, is always enjoyable to read. However, 'Graceful Waters' is a true gem and stands strongly on its own merit.
