Different Dress is the story of three women on a cross-country music tour. Jaime Esperanza is the assistant production manager in charge of both stage and stars. The headliner, Lacey Leigh Jaxon, is a fast-living, heavy drinking prima donna with intimacy problems. She's had a brief relationship with Jaime, then dumped her for a series of new band mates. Lacey still comes back to Jaime in between conquests, and Jaime hasn't gotten her entirely out of her heart.
Lacey Leigh steamrolls yet another opening act and, in desperation, the tour manager brings on board a folksinger from Minnesota named Kip Galvin, who wrote one of Lacey's biggest songs. Kip has true talent, she loves people and they respond to her, and she has a pleasant stage presence. A friendship springs up between Jaime and Kip—but what about Lacey Leigh?
It's a honky-tonk, bluesy, pop, country EXPLOSION of emotion as these three women duke it out. Who will win Jaime's heart and soul?

Rating: out of 5 stars - Too many details
Kudos to the author for incorporating an interesting main character who is a woman of color and not succumbing to the token "proud" African American woman who gets one page of text. I also found the details about the music business, furnaces, Al-non and amplifiers interesting but felt the daily life details such as "she put her wallet on the bumper of the truck.....she picked her wallet up" were annoying. I can't figure out if the author's editor quit or if the author was being paid by the word, ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Terrific story

This novel is a real delight. The characters that populate it are wonderfully endearing and unique, they are fully fleshed out and become very real to the reader. The story-line flowed readily. It is a real pleasure to read a lengthy novel that can fully explore all the characters facets and doesn't feel like parts are rushed, especially the ending. One of the other reviews mentioned this was movie worthy and I agree.

The writing is excellent, pulls you in and will not let ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Intriguing! Action-packed! A Great Book!
The author of such great books as Gun Shy, Under The Gun, Have Gun We'll Travel, Ricochet in Time and Stepping Out: Short Stories introduces readers to two new favorite characters to take to heart.

Kip Galvin, school teacher, songwriter and singer is asked to join the summer tour of popular singer Lacey Leigh Jaxon, It seems Lacey Leigh has, once again, run off another opening act. Assigned the task of picking her up at the airport, is Jaime Esperanza, electrician extraordinaire who handles ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Buy a copy for a readaholic friend!
Wow!! I love this book! It has stayed in my mind, weeks after reading it, causing me to reflect again and again on various points of the story. As usual with a Lori Lake book, it's a wonderful, well-written tale, full of real life people and real life dilemmas. Did you know Lori spent some time with the Indigo Gilrs and their tour show, garnering research material for the stage set-ups and techno-detail? Ms. Lake is developing into a master (or should I say Mistress?) of what she does best--producing ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Had to read while driving & flying...I could NOT put it down
This was Lori's BEST book to date. I loved each of the other's but I could not put Different Dress down. I loved following the 'band' around on the road. I enjoyed the skipping from Kim to Jamie and looked forward to what each new chapter would bring. I loved the details of the touring bus and could relate from long distance travels in a motor home. The jamming on the bus between shows sounded like a blast - I wish I could have been there.
The characters were so loveable that they could have been my ... Read More
