Actress and photographer Kris Carr thought she had a hangover, but a Jivamukti yoga class didn’t provide its usual kick-ass cure. Rating:  - I can see good intentions, but misses the mark for me
As a cancer survivor, I wanted to like this book. I love the idea of a "hip" survival/inspirational guide for women. I am so glad that Kris Carr has dealt so well with a devastating diagnosis. This points to a true strength of spirit. I think the author's heart is in the right place, but something went wrong here. I didn't find this book hip, or funny. It struck a bad chord for me. Although this author touches glibly upon a few difficult issues that occurred during her journey through diagnosis and treatment, her not-going-to-take this lying down spirit is infectious. Her extensive exploration into alternative adjunctive treatments while oppressed by her other treatments is inspiring. She uses a vernacular that is spot- on and reaches out to tickle your funny bone as well as your heart. ...if you or anyone you know is a young woman with cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 34 and cried when I received this book. I had no community support system and I finally felt as though I "belonged" somewhere. The tips are priceless and Kris is a cancer goddess. I never would have made it through my diagnosis had my hubby not bought me this book! I have since started a support group for young women in my area because Kris Carr was so inspiring. Kris Carr tells her story well. Her book is colorful, well printed and informative! it's about the alternative lifestyle she chose, which was not chemotherapy or radiation or even surgery. She opted for diet, yoga and attitude. This is not the journey that a lot of people have the option to take, or want to take. Please see, "goddesses don't buy green bananas" [...] This is a photographic story of 40 woman, all ages all kinds of cancer.
