Communicate and Negotiate by Rick E. Schroeder is a handy text for persons wishing to develop these skills. It is written in easy to follow instructional form using succinct examples to reinforce the techniques he discusses.
The chapter on listening skills is particularly helpful. This chapter alone is worth the price of the book.

This is an excellent, PRACTICAL, guide for communicating and negotiating in all facets of life. Imagine being a salesperson and receiving requests from 90% - 100% of seminar attendees for individual appointments (and closing on 90% of those!) This may sound unbelievable, but it's true. As a salesperson I was able to put many of the techniques in this book to immediate use. I was really impressed by this innovative book. It will replace "Getting to Yes" as the reference guide for the negotiating industry. This book is practical and easy to use. The topical index and 21 step process are perfect when you are pressed for time and need a quick reminder. The alphabetical lists of tactics and countertactics are the first of their kind.
