Editorial Review:
The orderly life of Jo Spence is seldom disturbed, except when she is dreaming. As a Juvenile Probation Supervisor in Duluth, Jo loves her work overseeing a staff of highly dedicated professionals. They guide the youth of the city out of trouble while protecting the safety of the community. When a murderer strikes, Jo's job suddenly becomes unpredictably threatening. She is forced to abandon her home in the country to take refuge with close friend Kathy and her partner Donna. Set against a backdrop of the idyllic life led by the women of the Valley, this suspenseful story reveals the inside world of the courthouse, jails, and the criminal justice system. Multiple murders, an attempt to break a gang leader out of a local detention facility, raids, and drug busts contribute to an action-oriented plot. In the middle of this turbulent time in Jo's life, her friends set her up with Zoey, a new faculty member at the local university. Their first date turns into a three-day encounter during a record-setting snowstorm. Jo tries unsuccessfully to resist the strong attraction she feels for Zoey, but she is drawn into the most intense affair of her life.

Rating: out of 5 stars - The next Sandford!!
I love this book!! I could not put it down. The mystery grabbed me and held me to the very end. Each character was fully developed, and I felt I knew and could visualize most of them.

Relating to the emotions and deep introspection regarding the romance, was easy. The interaction between the characters in law enforcement was truly amazing.

There was obviously great experience and/or research into the workings of law enforcement. Such a beautiful description of the Northland ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - OK book for a weekend in the winter
This book was an OK read. I thought the writing was well thought out but like reading a grocery list. I would have liked to see the thought process not so spelled out but more of an emotive quality to the narrative. The descriptions and characters were believable though. The editing was good and it was nice to have a lesbian story without it being a coming out story or major pain involved. I wish I could write as well as the author.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Solid, but somewhat uninspiring
This book is actually probabaly around 2-1/2 stars, but I don't know that it belongs in the same category of my 2-star reviews. Perhaps an average 3 stars. There were a lot of things I liked about it, but it had a lot of weaknesses also.

I enjoyed the interesting insight into the jobs of parole officers and their important role in law enforcement. This book was also full of well-structured sentences, and vivid descriptions of the outdoors and the variety of entertaining activities to be had ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Jen Wright does a nice job of weaving her own personal knowledge into a whodunit that is smart and contemporary.
Jen Wright is part of the ever-growing artistic community (who also have other careers) of people who live along the breathtaking north shore of Lake Superior in Clover Valley located east of Duluth, Minnesota. Jen's nine-to-five career consists of currently working as a Court and Field Supervisor for a local corrections agency, meaning she is a fount of information about the increasing problem of juvenile delinquency and gang activity in the Duluth area. Jen is a dog person and lives with her partner and ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Killer Storm a Great Mystery!
Killer Storm is a great book to read on a cold winter night or anytime of year for that matter. It is a real page-turner with wonderful descriptions of the Duluth area and points North, as well as the relationships between women, as well as the co-workers of probation officer Jo Spence. You do not have to live in Northern Minnesota to appreciate this first novel from author Jen Wright. I look forward to the next one!
