I'm a med student -- our book list said buy either the Guyton or this book, and based on the reviews, I bought the Guyton -- big mistake. Apparently the Guyton book is better on Cardiology, so I kept it, but I bought this book too and it's great. It's very well organized and to the point. The Guyton book takes at least twice the pages to say the same thing. I certainly don't have time to do any more reading than I have to. This book is well organized, clear, and to the point. we just hated this book so much, from the whole class. I am not saying anything to the seller, but the book was really not well-organized. The illustration in the textbook are not clear. Another book of Human Physiology would be much better. Especially in the muscle physiology part, it is a whole mess.

This textbook is a nightmare.
The chapters were written by different people and it is not consistant at all. All the chapters started from the middle without introducing the basic terms. The illustrations are confusing too.
I am a graduate student in biomedical engineering and we use this book as the textbook in class. All of my classmates find this book terrible.
I strongly suggest not buying this book, especially for beginners.

Rating:  - almost as good as Guyton
I used this book for an undergraduate renal/endocrine physiology class. For this material, it was excellent, but I still found myself referring back to my Guyton text fairly often. For comprehensive coverage of systems physiology, I would suggest Guyton.
In addition, I think we got one of the first printings of this book a few years ago, and the binding everyone's book fell apart completely after only three months of use. I hope they've solved that problem.
