Editorial Review: The creators of Teach Yourself Computers and the Internet Visually have done a service for the "people who know about computers" of the world. With lots of colorful pictures and just enough lucid prose, this book answers many of the questions computer newcomers traditionally have asked their coworkers or children. Covering everything from how to click with a mouse to how to connect to an FTP site, this book tells pretty much everything you need to know to become a competent computer user. The authors don't restrict their coverage to the basics, either--the book includes plenty of information on scanners, removable disks, digital cameras, and other accessories that aren't found on every computer. One of the great things about this book is that it provides information that other publications often leave out. For instance, many introductory Internet books describe electronic mailing lists, but few make the point (as this one does) that lists usually have an administrative address separate from the distribution address. That's the kind of important information that will save newbies from awkward moments. A few details are misleading, but the mistakes are minor. As a whole, Teach Yourself Computers and the Internet Visually is dead-on accurate and fun to read. --David Wall

Rating: - Pictures will always educate better than words, this book has aged very well
Most computer books age at light speed, but this one is an exception. Although it was published in 1998, the images still deliver an understandable message of how computers and the Internet work. As is the case with all "Visually" books, the sequence of diagrams takes you through a step-by-step set of lessons that anyone can understand.
If you are a novice in computers and the Internet and have a phobia with learning about them, this is still one of the best books that you can select as ... Read More
Rating: - "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!"
For the inexperienced intimidated by big, thick manuals with lots of print! This book is a fantastic, visually-pleasing intoductory course into computers and the internet. If your learning method is by observation or "hands-on", this is the book for you! It is as if the illustrators are in a room with you answering your every novice question and at the same time "plucking out" that very piece of equipment from the inner-workings of your computer. The result is a perfect solution ... Read More
