Rating: - Not First Man in Rome, but intriguing
As a fan of McCullough's Rome series, I picked up this book. I enjoyed it, but it's not one I've returned to over and over, as I have with The First Man in Rome and her saga of Marius, Sulla, Caesar and the rest.

I have not read this work. I have read each and every one of McCullough's 6 volumes about Ancient Rome.
I have read the reviews and synopses of Song of Troy and am aware of how the book is bound together thematically.
But the WHOLE theme of the original Iliad was how the Greek gods took sides in the war and how THEY affected it. The gods attempted to use the players of the respective sides as pawns in their own Olympic struggles.

I read the Iliad in high school because I had to, then promptly went on to other things. I picked this up with only a faint recollection of what the story was about. I don't know if I ever realized how good a story Odysseus, Helen, Paris, Agamemnon, Achilles, and the other Greeks and Trojans provided us with. There is sex, a little love, hate, war, jealousy, and intrigue, not only among humans but among gods and goddesses, too.
