This concise volume gives you a comprehensive review of both general surgery and surgical subspecialties in a user-friendly, question-and-answer format. Thoroughly revised, this 4th edition adds new chapters and updates existing chapters while maintaining its broad review of surgical topics. This ensures the questions offer a wide-ranging and complete review of the information most important to you. The Rush University Review is perfect for residents in training; surgeons preparing for certification or recertification exams, and experienced clinicians wishing to keep abreast of current advances.
  • Contains more than 1,500 review questions -- with answers and rationales -- that cover the full range of topics in general and subspecialty surgery, all the information surgeons need to prepare for board certification and recertification ... or to stay current with new advances.
  • Matches the format of the boards, with every question in the "single best-answer" or "initial best-answer" format, making the Rush University Review an ideal board-preparation tool.
  • Includes new chapters on preoperative care, the acute abdomen, complications, morbid obesity, transmissible diseases and the surgeon, principles of laparoscopy, and principles of ultrasonography.
  • Offers updated coverage of colon surgery, surgical technology, and genetics.

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: out of 5 stars - good review for the absite
good review for absite because the questions are harder. do not really appreciate the multiple choice questions that have more than one answer correct. great explanation of answers, both right and wrong ones, using pertinent information assumed in the question

Rating: out of 5 stars - essential for the Absite
Although the format of the questions is different than the Absite, the info is great. Tough questions with plenty of info to keep you busy. Aim to finish this book before the Absite and you'll be well-prepared (at least for the lower levels).

Rating: out of 5 stars - Board Review
I used this book ten years ago to study for the ABSITE was very pleased. I am very disappointed with the current edition. There are many typographical errors suggesting poor editing. The question and answer format is very difficult to figure out if they are looking for one or more answers. I would recommend the book as a very basic guide to get used to taking a test but I would no longer hold it as an authority. Many answers will require extensive cross referencing to validate.

Rating: out of 5 stars - real text book
It covers all essential chapters in surgery,in a systemaic way from the basic scinces to the sub-speciality.
i used this book for reviewing for my board exam. and i passed with a real v.good score.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Rush University Review of Surgery
I would say that for my intern year, this book helped a lot to study the significant topics. It is a good tool to have for the ABSITE, more comprehensive than just a regular Q&A book.
