Rating: - essential
I don't read a whole lot, (they should have an Amazon's Reader Poser Anonymous), BUT I do read this book. My instructor actually follows it well. There are also plenty of pictures that jog my memory. Interesting stuff. This along with Janeway's Immunobiology, Bates Physical Exam and the Merke Manual are some of my best purchases for medical school.
Rating: - favorite med school text
it's got a lot of information in it but this full edition of robbins (we call it "big robbins" to distinguish it from its two smaller siblings which are more "digests" in nature) is a pleasure to read. med school texts can be dry and awful but this one manages to tell the stories of things nicely and from different perspectives in each chapter. by the end of a chapter, you have the sense of seeing a thing multiple times and it hangs together well.
Rating: - True classic
I wont add much to whats already been said. Im a first year mature age medical student with a few other degrees under my belt. This is one of the most well laid out, readable, and enjoyable texts that Ive come across in any field of study. I find it pretty dense but not overwhelmingly so and for those who want to go even deeper there are references for further reading. Highly recommended.
Rating: - Robbins Rocks
A must have for any first year pathology resident and usually on the list of books for med students anyways. Full of information, easy to read, but doesn't cover all of the rare things you may need to know at more advanced levels...you'd need a specialty book (aka Sternberg, Rosai, WHO, etc) for that.
Rating: - very good text
Although this text is huge and a pain and a half to lug around, it is very useful and comprehensive, and I would recommend it to anyone who will have extensive pathology courses.
