I picked this up at a book sale and it was excellent! It's engaging, funny, and beautiful-- I stayed up all night to finish it and suggested it to friends.

Molly Bolt is my freakin' hero! This story makes me think there is some sort of lesbian collective unconscious out there, since myself and many of my contemporaries have shared variations of her experiences. Like Molly, I starting opening the closet door at age eleven and had kicked it off the hinges by the time I was in my late teens. Now I'm not usually a reader type. I've found myself quickly losing interest within the first five pages wondering when a book's gonna get good. However this book has turned my views around. Although she is presently best known as the author of the "Miss Murphy" mystery series, which includes such titles as WISH YOU WERE HERE and REST IN PIECES, Rita Mae Brown's original claim to fame was her 1973 debut novel RUBYFRUIT JUNGLE, the semi-autobiographical tale of a rebellious lesbian coming of age in the turbulent 1960s.

It seems that there is a bias against marriage and heterosexuality in the book. The writer makes it seem that a woman's life is over once she settles down and gets married. The girls who have tasted homosexuality are so free and full of life opposed to the married women who look twice their age. But overall an easy read.
