Editorial Review: This book explains how to develop more effective risk communications using the Carnegie Mellon mental-model approach. Such communications are designed to contain, in readily usable form, the information that people need to make informed decisions about risks to health, safety, and the environment. The approach draws together methods from the natural and social sciences, providing a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration. It is demostrated with varied examples including electromagnetic fields, climate change, radon, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Average Rating:
Rating: - Practical and well grounded in the literature -- a must own
This book is a "must own" for anyone who is interested in conveying risk information to members of the public. It lays out a cohert framework -- and more or less step-by-step instructions -- for identifying what information will be of greatest value to members of a target audience. It is the most useful book I have found thus far to guide my efforts to communicate complex health information to members of various publics.
