"Here is the book that Romeo would have given Juliet; Charlie Brown would have given Snoopy; and you can give to some very special friend" proclaims the back cover of this small, whimsical book. Written in 1965 by Sandol Stoddard Warburg, it still makes the perfect present for your best friend. Not just any run-of-the-mill best friend, though. This book is for the kind of friend who yells for you when you get lost in Grand Central Station or pretends to save you when you pretend to be drowning. Or, as Warburg puts it, "You know how to be silly / That's why I like you / Boy are you ever silly / I never met anybody sillier than me / till I met you." I Like You is simple and quirky, uses words like "snurkle," and is laden with delightful Maurice Sendak-style pen-and-ink illustrations of alligators dancing, lively children, mirth, and general goofiness. Do you need new answers to the question "How do I like thee?" I Like You is a great help for counting the ways.(All Ages)
This classic tiny book's adorable black-and-white illustrations accompany
descriptive text that perfectly expresses the true meaning of friendship.
Here is the book that Romeo would have given Juliet; Charlie Brown would
have given Snoopy; and now friends of all ages can give this to their special
someone.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Perfect for wedding!
I originally found the text from this book while looking for the perfect ceremony readings for my Sept. '08 wedding. We decided the poem was a bit long for a reading--but I really wanted to incorporate it into the ceremony in some way. On an impulse I bought the book days before the wedding (thank you 2-day shipping!) and decided to use it as a guest book though I wasn't sure how that would turn out. The day after the wedding we finally sat down and paged through the book. I discovered that this ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - From Father to husband
When I was a child my father went to Vietnam. My father sent this book to my mother as a gift. I always read it when I was a child. My father signed the book for my mother when he was overseas. It was a book my mother treasured. Well I'm grown up now and this book is a part of my heart. When I first met my husband I bought this book for him on Sweetest Day. I always told him "I like you." and I got many phrases from this book. He couldn't figure it out until I bought the book and now he treasures it. ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - A dear little book
The illustrations are light-hearted and amusing, perfectly suiting the text which expresses so many things one thinks about friendship but perhaps never said. I bought copies for some friends and all my grandchildren, too.

Rating: out of 5 stars - I Like You
I have given this book to all my grandchildren and also close friends. It expresses those feelings that bring people together, family, and friends forever.

A charming way to express your love and friendship.
