Editorial Review: Skillfully blending searing suspense, characters with grit and heart, and a dynamic plot, bestselling author Julie Garwood has written another electrifying novel of romantic suspense.Kate MacKenna doesn’t have a bad bone in her body–or an enemy in the world. A woman who barely knew her father and has just lost her mother, Kate is a loving sister, a savvy business owner, and an unpretentious beauty who radiates kindness. So why are bombs igniting everywhere she goes? The first explosion brings her face-to-face with a handsome Charleston police detective. The second one sends her into the arms of her best friend’s brother–a Boston cop who’s a little too reckless and way too charming for comfort. But Dylan Buchanan won’t let emotion prevent him from doing his job: Someone is trying to kill Kate, and Dylan is the only one standing between her and the monster who wants her dead. For Kate to understand the danger, she must learn all about desire–desire for pleasure, desire for power, and someone’s desire to kill. From the Hardcover edition.

Rating: - Forgettable - Not Garwood's Best
I bought it in hardback when it first came out, and I can honestly say that it's a forgettable venture on Garwood's part. I love almost every one of her historical romances, and I LOVED her first contemporary, "Heartbreaker", but I'm convinced that her contemporaries are on a "good one"/"bad one" pattern. I like only every other contemporary that she puts out. Half of them are duds.
"Slow Burn" is formulaic and lacking in creativity and passion in the romance department- the characters ... Read More
Rating: - Slow Burn
Kate MacKenna can thank her wonder bra for her life being spared when a bomb went off at a party being thrown by Carl Bertolli. She had snuck into the shrubs to dispose of it when the blast went off. She wasn't injured badly, but the hits just kept coming when she was released from the hospital, and found out that her company was in jeopardy due to loans her deceased mother had put in motion. Not only her company was at risk, but also her own name due to the name recognition. The next hit came when ... Read More
Rating: - a poor showing for such a talented writer
I have to say I found this book disappointing. The plot was clunky- neither the mystery nor the romance pulled me in at all. The main characters seemed more like caricatures, the mystery wasn't that mysterious, and there were entirely too many subplots cluttering up the landscape whose only purpose seemed to be laying the groundwork for future novels about these two families.
I've always been a huge fan of Garwood's historical novels, and hoped her signature depth and humor would shine through ... Read More
Rating: - Good- not Mercy or Killjoy Good, But Good
This book was good. I enjoyed it much better than Murder list. There was a lot of interaction between Dylan and Kate, I had a few good laughs. On to Shadow Dance, Noah's story.
Rating: - I like Garwood, this book is a little silly though
I think that Garwood has everything that it takes to be one of the best novelists of our time. In a couple of her books, I have read swaths of 100 or so pages that leave me with my mouth wide open. However she has a need to always hark back to what she feels is her nitch, that of mystery/thriller/romance. Every time that she does this, she creates a mass of barriers and boundries that limit her stories and in the end suffocates them.
From the start of 'Slow Burn, Garwood pens in her character ... Read More
