Squirrel and her brother Bone begin their lives in a toolshed behind someone's summer house. Their mother nurtures them and teaches them the many skills they will need to survive as stray dogs. This book was really really good and well written. It was a little sad, but not too bad. I read this when I was maybe 9 and I'd say that's a good age to read it.

This book touched my heart. It is a story about the adventures of a stray dog from birth to old age told from the dog's viewpoint. It gets very sad at some points in the book, but the ending will warm your heart.
