Now expanded and updated: The book in which one of America's most brilliant and respected doctors gives us his famous program for improving and maintaining health—already the program of choice for hundreds of thousands. Eight Weeks to Optimum Health focuses all of Andrew Weil's expertise in both conventional and alternative medicine on a practical week-by-week, step-by-step plan, covering diet, exercise, lifestyle, stress, and environment—all of the aspects of daily living that affect health and well-being. And he shows how his program can be tailored to the specific needs of pregnant women, senior citizens, overweight people, and those at risk for cancer, among others.Dr. Weil has added the most up-to-date findings on such vital subjects as cholesterol, antioxidants, trans fats, toxic residues in the food supply, soy products, and vitamins and supplements, together with a greatly enhanced source list for information and supplies.Preventive in the broadest sense, straightforward, and encouraging, Eight Weeks to Optimum Health has proved to be, and in this updated version will continue to be, an essential book.

Rating: out of 5 stars - 8 Weeks to optimum health.
Wow what a great, well written alternative health text. So many issues that I had not heard of, now to digest the information. I will never view doctors with the same trusting faith again. Apparently we all have much to learn about human healing and so little time. Thank you Dr. Weil.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Useful
There is a lot of repetition from other books written by Dr.Weil. Also, I believe that some of his remedies are probably not very effective. This is not to say that anyone would be harmed by any of his suggestions. And I think the main thrust of his writings is right on the mark. In fact, if someone follows all his suggestions they will become healthier than they would be otherwise. They would pay a lot more money than needed, but they would surely benefit - unless their health has gone down ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - Love This Book...For All Ages
This book is for all ages. I have learned so much from it and follow all the tips and constantly return to it as a resource. If your 25 or 55 or 75, this information is for you all.

Rating: out of 5 stars - Only OK.
This book is required for a course that I am taking, otherwise, I would not have purchased it. As a matter of fact, I am planning on selling it back -- so someone can expect a mint condition used book soon.

I have implemented my own health plan of diet and exercise and this is mostly a rehash of information I already know.

However, my major complaints are that the author:

1) Recommends wild caught salmon.

Salmon is an endangered species. Salmon ... Read More

Rating: out of 5 stars - I think this is a beneficial book; would certainly improve health and spirituality
I usually don't get books like this because of their associations with New Age, Boomer-type literature that is all about connecting with the self and so forth, the type of diet plus pseudo-spirituality that really bothers me. Not that I am against spirituality, I just don't like all of this fake spirituality that is meant to comfort people without making them think! Anyhow, back to Weil's book. It really doesn't have any of this New Age propaganda, and I'm thankful for that. Now, I mostly skimmed ... Read More
