Editorial Review: Countless students, professors and general readers alike have relied upon The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha for essential scholarship and guidance to the world of the Bible. Now the Augmented Third Edition adds to the established reputation of this premier academic resource. A wealth of new maps, charts, and diagrams further clarify information found in the scripture pages. In addition, section introductions have been expanded and the book introductions have been made more uniform in order to enhance their utility. Of course, the Augmented Third Edition retains the features prized by students, including single column annotations at the foot of the pages, in-text background essays, charts, and maps, a page number-keyed index of all the study materials in the volume, and Oxford's renowned Bible maps. This timely edition maintains and extends the excellence the Annotated's users have come to expect, bringing still more insights, information, and approaches to bear upon the understanding of the biblical text.

Rating: - A very liberal and PC study Bible
The Bible commentaries are written from a decidedly liberal theological perspective. It is obvious that the authors believe the Bible is just a product of ancient myths and storytelling. They disbelieve miracles and explain away prophecy by assigning late dates for the books. Their notes are not balanced and really do not present opposing points of view or evidence to the contrary. More a work of anti-Christian/anti-Jewish propaganda than a balanced, scholarly work. Also, while it is not a bad ... Read More
Rating: - One Great Bible!
If you want to do serious Bible study, this is the Bible for you. It is published by Oxford University Press, so the quality is the highest -- beautiful leather cover, gorgeous gold leafing on the page edges, excellent quality Bible paper, and two ribbon markers stitched into the binding. It is published in the New Revised Standard Version, which is a little too "gender-neutral" for my taste, but the other features more than offset that. Besides, the NRSV is the official version of our church, is a ... Read More
Rating: - A Scholarly Standard
I bought this bible b/c I needed a good study Bible with world- class scholarship behind the notes and supplementary materials, and it has delivered! While one might not necessarily agree with or value 'higher' critical accounts of the Biblical record, they can surely value the socio-cultural insights provided. The extra maps in this edition are great too, aiding visualization of these ancient times and places. Overall an A+!
Rating: - Best Bible I Own
This is the best bible i have yet to own. The bibnding and leather are great, the text is a wonderful size, and is glorious due to the addition of the Apocrypha. The notes are the best of any Bible I have ever seen. They reference knowledge and scholars outside of simple Christian thought. The notes as well as the translation are enhanced due to the ecumenical influence. No other Bible refernces such ancient texts such as the "Epic of Gilgamesh" or the "Enuma Elish" in their study or annotation notes. ... Read More
