After I told my 9 year old son I would buy this for him, he wasn't interested. But once it arrived and I read the first story with him, he was hooked.

The Encyclopedia Brown series is an excellent way to encourage youngsters to read critically, think, and have fun doing it. In this example, as in others, Leroy (Encyclopedia) Brown and his friend Sally run a youthful detective agency in Idaville, matching withs with Bugs Meany, the Lions, and other juvenile wrong-doers. I loved 2 Minute Mysteries when I was a child and now my daughter loves the same type of mysteries in Encyclopedia Brown and the 5 Minute Mysteries. They are fun in the car.
