Editorial Review:
A dazzling, remarkably original dark comedy about a young New Yorker's failed attempts to isolate himself in a city that won't take solitude for an answer For years it's been Andy Green's job to stump students nationwide by coming up with the wrong answers for their multiple-choice tests. Recently, however, his own life has become overwhelmed by wrong choices. When a love affair is mysteriously ended by a Post-it note and followed up by a random street assault, Andy locks himself in his Hell's Kitchen apartment. In solitude, he thinks, he might be able to get a grip on his life. But when he is forced to reemerge six months after the attacks of September 11, the city awaiting him is more bewildering than ever and all the people in his world seem to be part of a vast conspiracy. Equal parts noir, French farce, and homage to New York, Suspension is a surprisingly heartfelt novel about learning to live in a world where nearly everything is decided behind our backs.

Rating: - good but not great
I LOVED the first half of this book, but the second half through me for a loop and it wasn't necessarily a good one. Mostly interesting, good flow, not too pleased with the tone of the second half, but overall a good book. Not sure if I'd recommend.
Rating: - Could not put it down!
This is not only a great New York book, it's a great book in general! I could not put it down, and though the character's suffering pained me, Westfield's way with words and the terrific plot combined for a thoroughly heartfelt, enjoyable read. I can't wait to see what he creates next!
Rating: - Stunning Suspension
This is merely a stunning debut novel from a wonderful writer -- it alternately juggles humor (which is very funny) with drama (which is deeply moving) while keeping an interesting storyline going with richly crafted characters. One of the finest novels of the year. One can't write much about the plot without revealing spoilers - better to just settle down in front of the fire and start to read...I loved this novel.
Rating: - FICTION OR FACT?
SUSPENSION will annoy and inspire. SUSPENSION will intrigue and disappoint. SUSPENSION is a complex black comedy with characters a reader might find totally worthless. This novel by Robert Westfield will confound and frustrate, and I believe it will do so by intent. Andy (Andrew) Green is a standardized test writer whose job is based upon confusing, misleading, and confounding test takers. So too is his life, i.e, confused and confounded, especially after the events of 9/11 and his brutal mugging ... Read More
Rating: - great new york tale
In Robert Westfield's novel "Suspension", a great NYC tale, you get a glimpse of a post-9/11 world through the eyes of Andy Green. After a brutal hate crime, Green nearly loses it as he hides away from the world in his tiny apartment. Slowly, but surely, he realizes that many people in his life are not who they seem as the mystery of why his former lover suddenly disappeared begins unraveling.
This is a great debut and I can't wait to see what future stories Westfield has for us.
