Editorial Review: Jane Jeffry and longtime beau Detective Mel VanDyne finally decide to marry, but Mel's overbearing mother wants to take charge of not only the rehearsal dinner but the actual wedding. Since Jane half expected Mel's mother to steamroll the entire event, she agrees—but with rules of her own. No bridesmaids, no groomsmen. And she can't tell Jane what to wear. But during what should have been a blissful interval between the engagement and the bouquet toss, several other occurrences take place. Mel convinces Jane and her best friend, Shelley Nowack, to take a women's safety class. They learn a lot, but the class is cut short when a dead body is discovered. So between Jane's wedding planning, her new writing project, and a battle between both mother-in-laws (which Jane encourages), a murderer must be found before this bride can walk happily down the aisle.

Rating: - A few weeks in the life of Jane Jeffry...
I have to agree with the majority this wasn't a mystery. It was more like Jane's personal diary [written in the third person] including excruciating detail about every aspect of her life. We get to read about a chapter from her new book, her entire grocery list, her home improvements and, even, kitty litter!! I like Jane and Mel and Shelley and the kids, etc. I just wish someone had told me something, anything at all, about why the second woman was murdered. I'm also curious about why the first ... Rating: - Who kidnapped the real Jill Churchhill and wrote this mess?
The Jane Jeffry series were my introduction to mystery novels a few years ago and I was hooked by the charm and earthy savvy of the character. I've read them all. This book does not even come close to what I expect from Jill Churchill's books. There is no real mystery just assorted snippets of random information that barely add up to any intrigue or story.
I've always like the day-to day details she provides about their lives but this book is filled with way too much irrelevant info about ... Read More
Rating: - Can't believe I paid $7 for this book....
I love the Jane Jeffry series (and Grace and Favor to a somewhat lesser degree) and have always anxiously awaited the opportunity to read one. I couldn't manage to snap up this one at the non-profit, used book store (my preferred place to buy) so I went to B&N and bought the paperback full-price. I feel so ripped-off. What a travesty this book was!! I concur with all of the negative commentaries so no reiteration is necessary. In general, the characters that were previously warm, funny, complex and ... Read More
Rating: - Mystery? What mystery?
I found this to be an extremely disappointing book. Yes, a crime does occur--but with virtually no suspects and very few pages dedicated to the solving of the crime, it's not so much a mystery as it is The Story of Jane: Jane's book, Jane's wedding, Jane's personal fight against the horror of parking meters (with a seemingly endless roll of quarters) with a few references to Mel's work on the case thrown in as almost an afterthought. While I enjoyed the first few Jane Jeffrey mysteries, I will definitely ... Read More
Rating: - Very Negative Book
I have been a Jill Churchill fan for a long time. I even met her at ALA convention years ago. She was delightful and personable to talk to. This is why it pains me so much to speak ill of this book & her writing.
I am going to agree with all the other negative reviews on there being no mystery. There was no mystery at all. It was just a wedding planning book. The thing is, I could almost take the no mystery mystery. What annoyed me page after page was the negativity. Apparently, Ms. ... Read More
